I think the Ga. dome isn't bad.

I love the dome but I wouldn't go that far.
What other Domes that are as old haven't been relegated to the scrap heap? None. The Dome is better now than ever and the improvements prior to 2013 will be significant. It has stood the test of time. Houston had the Super Bowl in 1973 and the game was played at Rice Stadium instead of the Astro Dome.

being the best indoor football facility is like winning gold in the special olympics.

Agreed. The problem is that San Diego's Stadium is pure crap and Miami and Tampa are the only other outdoor facilities that are an option. Houston is one, but the sprawl associated with that city as a host is a real problem.

It's pretty much the same type of facility as Sun Life/Landshark/Dolphin/Dolphins/Pro Player Park/Pro Player/Joe Robbie Stadium.
It was multi-use (but not cookie cutter), similar exterior design, etc, etc.

There is nothing wrong with the Superdome.
Alot of people also forgot about Rice Stadium hosting in 73'...talk about a random site.
Also, when the NFL stopped using the Rose Bowl and the Coliseum, was there a formal announcement, or what?

Not really. The facilty is very old and luxury suites are very few. I personally think that San Diego and NO are the two best places to host the big game. Miami would be third IMO.

but from an outsiders point of view it is not a stadium that brings excitement as a super bowl venue
What do you look for to determine excitement in a stadium. The stadium has nothing to do with excitement. The game is what makes the excitement.

Word...it's not like Seattle Seahawk fans and the 12th man shite aren't going to be in their home stadium watching two other teams duke it out for a title while still going ape shite.

The urban sprawl in Houston is a nightmare for the media and NFL executives. The only nice thing about the Houston Super Bowl was the stadium. The rail system is a joke, there are very few cabs except downtown and around the airports, the bus system is mediocre at best. Houston just isn't set up to hold major events. There are plenty of hotels, restaurants, etc but everything in Houston is a 30 minute drive.
The people who organized the Houston Super Bowl knew about these problems beforehand and compensated appropriately. From an organizational perspective - accommodating the hordes of fans and media - Houston was praised considering the city's infrastructural challenges. The few people who bitched were media members who 1) always want the Super Bowl in a touristy location (near nice beaches) 2) needed a column.

Houston is IMO a great city. And will get more Super Bowls in the future. Very underrated in terms of food and culture. Good luck to NO's savior city.

I love New Orleans, but it's one of the most dangerous cities in the nation. Not everyone thinks it's as great as we do.
Downtown New Orleans has a better set up for big Super Bowl-like events than pretty much any other city.

This is correct. The hotels, restuarants, Harrah's makes for the best atmosphere in the country. All within walking distance.
