The hate in this thread towards Marshall is about 1% of the hate their fanbase is showing to Tech on Twitter. Maybe not even 1%

Ducking is when you don't play someone out of fear of losing.

Trust me, no one is "ducking" the University of Lower Mentality.

The Sun Belt’s CEOs voted to invite Louisiana Tech to become the league’s 14th member on Monday morning, giving the school a replacement for Texas State.

The school plans to accept and pay a buyout that’s at least $5 million from Conference USA. The entry date remains uncertain, but the earliest they’d get in is 2026. A determination on that will be in upcoming weeks.

It will mark a return to the Sun Belt for Louisiana Tech, which departed the Sun Belt for the WAC in 2001. The move meshes with Sun Belt Commissioner Keith Gill’s stated philosophy of focusing on regional rivalries, as La Tech had strong Sun Belt West support.

LaTech voted into Sunbelt

Very happy for LA Tech—lots of family ties and many friends are alums. Can’t wait for those rivalry games vs. ULM, ULL, and USM. Those NLU games were intense when I went as a kid back in the 80s.

Congrats, Tech!

This is good news. The Sun Belt has become a good group of 5 or 6 (Pac 12) conference.

$7MM per year for a Sun Belt team vs $750k per year for a CUSA team is an insane difference

I'm not sure where he got those numbers. IIRC FY24 records showed SBC teams getting around $2MM per in conference distributions and CUSA schools getting around $4MM per (most of which was exit/entrance fee disbursements and NCAA credits).

I think the media deal is around 1.5-1.75 for both conferences (CUSA has CBS and ESPN deals), the SBC just doesn't have the weeknight games slots for half their conference games which CUSA has which allows for more gate revenue Sat games > Tues/Wed/Thur games.

I can't wait until the conference adds McNeese and Lamar. Make more frequent uses of buses for travel.

So where does this put the Sun Belt in baseball conference rankings? Surely no worse than 4th and honestly I’d say 3rd. Only behind the SEC/ACC. Easily better than the Big 10 and it would probably depend on the year for Big 12. Coastal, Southern Miss, ULL, and Tech aren’t scared of anyone in baseball.

Growing up in Lafayette in the 60s and 70s (1980 Acadiana High graduate), I remember the USL/LA Tech rivalry. They were the team I most wanted USL to beat every year. And it always seemed like La Tech won when I was sure USL would.

I think its good to get those old rivalries back in place at this level of football. I think that is going the way of the dinosaur at the power level. It might be good for the G5 and lower type conferences to focus on that as an offset to the money race that the power conferences seem tied up in.

I think it’s a home run. Fill the stands, conserve money on travel, and try to maximize your money for NIL. We went to several games this year and my wife had no clue who the other team was that Tech was playing. Bring back the rivalries.

They were pretty low this season. Warren Nolan has the Sunbelt 7th in 2025 conference RPI.

Another service ranks them 8th.

But I think this was an off year. ULL, who has usually been solid and sometimes pretty good, was bad through a large stretch of the season and finished with an overall losing record. Only 4 teams had an overall winning record.

No to both of those.

Yeah, now we can hate each other again and still be proud when an alum from the other school we hate does well.

But I gotta admit I do not really follow UL athletics like I do LSU. My freshman year at LSU ruined me for UL football in particular, though I do still pull for them.

Assuming Texas State would go to the Pac-12 in 2026, it would make sense for Louisiana Tech to also jump conferences that year. However, much still needs to happen for a target date to be formalized.

My-oh-my! The PAC-12 has really fallen upon hard times. Once one of the nation's elite conferences is now inviting the school formerly known as Southwest Texas State University.

I’d argue sbc is definitely better than the big 10 most years in baseball. Big 12 probably not. What I think hurts the conference the most is once you get past the first like 5/6 clubs there’s a whole lot of meh (at best).
