This feels like a misstep by Texas State.

Maybe but the amount of exposure the program is going to get in the Pac compared to what they currently have in the SBC is probably going to be a big upgrade.

The Pac TV deal will primarily have games on CBS, CBSSN, and Paramount+ w/the Pac title game airing on CBS. They will also likely have secondary agreements for weekly games on CW and TNT.

If they'd stayed in the SBC the conference games are on ESPN+ 95% of the time w/the occasional game on ESPN2/ESPNU w/the SBC title game airing on ESPN.

Texas State is a big arse school separate from the A&M, Texas, and Tech university systems so this is part of a long term play to try and elevate the school to their level.

You can’t grow the fan base without winning. Promotion has nothing to do with it. Winning football games is all that matters.

I may have agreed with you more than a decade ago, but could you explain decreasing football attendance when Billy Napier was head coach?

Myth busted.

Texas State is a dogshit program in the Sun Belt. They’ll be even more of a doormat now

I'd be pissed too continuing to root for ULaLa in the sun belt.

You have a university president who actually enjoys school athletics and wants enthusiasm amongst the fanbase, and wants to attract new fans within the Hill Country region.

This new regime is way different than the last regime. Our last regime didn’t care about athletics. They just wanted to get to the FBS but didn’t know what it takes to maintain a FBS program.

Our new president and AD is totally invested in athletics and they both realize that athletics is really the forefront of the university and now the football program is getting much more support now than they did pre covid.

Make it 81. I am an LSU alum and fan but I did take some summer classes and ULM. I will be happy to give a Tech fan a knuckle sandwich.

In as well! I'm almost an old lady, but will gladly drive up from Houston.

And I'm with Pedro...I will most definitely attend the first ULM-LaTech game. I would never miss that to stay home and watch LSU.

Where does Texas State rank in the Austin market?
Behind Texas?
Behind the Cowboys?
Or the Texans?
Behind the Rangers?
Or the Astros?
How much air time do they get on the Saturday night sportscast?

The Fun Belt is awesome. Good luck to Texas State in their new rivalry with Portland State.

Adding schools like mcneese and Tarleton are incredibly stupid unless you're desperate.

Mcneese isn't the mcneese of old sadly

Billy was there 4 years. Two of which were 2020 and 2021 so numbers are cooked. His first year they went 7-7 then in 2019 won 11 games.

Sounds like your myth is busted. Find another excuse.

McNesse and Tarelton are probably better than ULM/NLU.

I mean you probably know the answer to this question. TXST is basically on an island. Austin has UT and SA has UTSA/Spurs and San Marcos is right in the middle of those 2 major cities. So they don’t get a lot of media coverage.

Exactly. But the reason they're going to the PAC12 is because of the Austin "market".
In which they barely exist.

I do think this is the move they needed to make to get some excitement in the area and I believe it has already. Is it a really significant move? That’s debatable but it’s definitely a step up IMO. I think the PAC 12 can challenge the AAC for the top G6 conference in football and I think it will be a great basketball league. Home games against Gonzaga/SDSU will be great.
