Is saying that the MLB would probably prefer their best player to be able to speak English really a controversial take

The racism thing is going to blown out of proportion because that’s society today. I think the talent is so incredibly unique I’m not sure how much it matters what language he speaks. I’m probably not a good sample point though because I’d much rather see him throw 100 and hit 450 foot missiles than look at someone’s Twitter or tiktok

This actually happened not too long ago in soccer. Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani called someone "negrito", which is a term of endearment in Latin America. Well the English press reported it as him calling someone a "little n-----". Even after this was explained, he was still suspended and forced to apologize. Things can be lost in translation and the media will find anyway to make it a big story for clicks.

It definitely does in terms of mainstream marketability.

In a vaccum? I agree.

Relative to the norm that has been determined by the leftist media? It's hugely racist.

That’s not bigoted. It’s reality. The best player in the games can’t communicate easily with fans. That’s not ideal.

So fricking quick to call something racist these days

So for the people who didn't think First Take was professional wrestling... here's proof that it's professional wrestling.

Highest paid ESPN guy says inflammatory things on his debate show. Other high paid ESPN guy comes on said debate show for a debate.

Manufactured content.

I’ll be on First Take tomorrow morning to talk about Shohei Ohtani.

I’ve got some things to say.

i don't like Smith but he has a point that no one will ever like a guy who doesn't speak english. Yao Ming was able to learn it. THIS GUY SHOULD TOO!

Glad someone brought this up. The FA even admitted Cavani's comment had no offensive or racist intent, but still suspended him 3 games, fined him, and made him take an "education" course.

The media and other organizations in today's world will pounce on any opportunity to signal their virtue, no matter how benign the issue might be. I don't blame foreign players for using interpreters at all.

I'm not surprised that a big deal is being made of it because that's where we are right now, but what he said shouldn't be a big deal, at least in a more rational world.

Amazing that folks still don’t know me after all these years. If I am wrong about something, I will apologize. Especially if I unintentionally offend ANY GROUP of people — because it’s the right thing to do. Period! I’m BLACK. I would know! See y’all tomorrow on

He should be fired today. Prejudiced sob. If he said about a Latin player he would be gone. Ask Rachel Nichols about this stuff. And she was nothing compared to this.

Listen, I'll be the judge of what is and isn't racist. I'm WHITE. I should know!
