You can run gimmicky shite in college with an athlete at quarterback and get away with it because of the talent discrepancies between teams. Everyone in the NFL is a freak of nature so you need something between the ears to succeed at quarterback.
I'm glad someone said it. Also, the reason they get away with it is because in College it's usually 1 read and if they're not open the QB takes off. Defenses are much tougher to see in the NFL. A ton of presnap movement and disguises

CFB is a better product on pretty much every conceivable level.

I'm not sure why people feel the need to compare the two. I love both, and I get college on one day and NFL on the other.

NFL is boring, sterile corporate garbage these days.
Artificial hype and artificial enthusiasm.
It's so far divorced from the spirit of sport it's gross.

You don't enjoy football. You enjoy gambling.

when i was growing up, I can't recall debates like this at all. But things change.
the game has changed.
people change.
a longtime friend of mine use to be the biggest Alabama fan i knew. He still keeps up with the team and is obviously proud of their success but he's married and has two kids. He barely mentions Alabama Football in a conversation now.
i use to be totally locked in to the NFL but in recent years, not as much. The obvious difference in which the game is played is #1. The way the games are officiated. The politics of the league are also super annoying and redundant.

I used to say the NFL was way better. But I’m so turned off by the greed and off the field/political garbage now I enjoy the college game much more. And just a few years ago I never would have imagined my perception of both brands would change so quickly and drastically. NFL opening week used to be like Christmas morning to me. Now I don’t care when the season starts.

CFB is going to be better for people who went to schools where it's important. People from a young age have college affiliations ingrained into their lives different from pro teams. Parents, grandparents, cousins, brothers, sisters, aunts uncles etc. all went to "XX university" and paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to that school.
Additionally, if you attend that school, you are inside that environment in an intimate way for 3-5 years in a way that pro sports just can't provide.

The NFL is just sterile. I haven't even bothered to watch 4 of the last 5 super bowls. As pure dogshit as the CFB post-season is, I've watched probably 100 of the bowl games over that same period. 3 NFL postseason games in total.
There's something to be said for actually attending a school and knowing the players did too. Some of them may have even taken the same classes with the same professors. Lived in the same dorms. Even when teams are out of the running, the players try hard throughout the season. NFL players are all mercenaries with little allegiance to any team or city (for the most part, I know some become icons for a franchise). Throw in all the traditions, fight songs, iconic names, the best stadiums, and it's lopsided for CFB.
I went to UCF and then LSU, so I get to see both sides of the coin in CFB. Ever since I moved to Louisiana, UCF has been that plucky underdog who's somehow one of 7 or 8 teams with 2+ BCS/NY6 wins in the last five years. LSU has gone downhill during that time, but I still get to see and appreciate all the culture and history that comes with a program dating back to the 1800's (UCF wasn't even a FBS team until 1997). For the love of god, I need to see LSU beat Alabama once before I get out of this state.

How good is my college team? How good is my NFL team? Then I can tell you which is better

yep
I moved to the NorthEast (NYC)
The big schools up here in the region I would say is Rutgers and maybe Syracuse.
Now at Rugters, college sports aren't that big/followed by the student body. Most Rutgers grads I met are from the NY/NJ area and prefer their pro team to their college team (Jets and Giants)
Syracuse, is mostly a basketball school. You have some diehards but for them too it's their pro team.
Not until you get the Penn State, ND, Michigan alums do you see College over pro.

as well as how important every game is. In the nfl an 8-8 team still had a shot. You lose 2 games, maybe even 1 game and you are done
This is exactly why I like the NFL so much. I can continue cheering for my team even after a loss. I live in Tennessee and see the absolute deflation of UT fans early in the season every year. IF there was a better playoff system in college, UT fans wouldn't be deflated in September. They would have at least until October before they turn into their typical grumpy selves.

I prefer college football by a wide margin. I think it's because I find it more entertaining. I can sit down in front of the TV and watch any college game, doesn't matter who is playing, from start to finish. For whatever reason, unless it's the playoffs, I can't do that with the NFL.

I like seeing the best in their sport compete. I don’t enjoy watching Alabama play some bums 5-7 games a year.
This website loves to shite on the nfl, though. But it’s better football, the playoff system is a million times better, there’s more parity, you get to see your star players on your team for more than 2-4 years.
If I want a good tailgate, sure I’ll prefer college.

This is a college website so of course most on here suck off everything college ball. I like college ball, too. I fricking love football. But no doubt the nfl always has and always will be more popular than college. It destroys it in ratings and always and forever will do so. It’s better football.
When LSU won titles it was cool. When the saints won the super bowl the entire state went nuts. People partied all night. Grown arse men were crying. It meant more than anything LSU ever has done, and it really isn’t close. This isn’t debatable either

I like both. But CFB has a problem with too many meaningless games. In the big picture the MAC, AAC, Sun Belt, CUSA really don't matter. Those games have very, very, little impact on who determines the champion.
Plus the talent difference and the resources between programs means that way too many games within the P5 and games between P5 and non-P5 are not competitive.
For example check out the records of Alabama v. Vandy, Miss State, Kentucky, Ole Miss and it's so lopsided. Same thing with Michigan v. Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Purdue and so on.
CFB has the atmosphere and passion, but too many games are not close and not meaningful compared to the NFL so I think they both are the same.

NFL: Some players don't stand for the anthem.
CFB: Zero players stand for the anthem.
