The City of Cleveland 1964-present
Massive heartbreak and stupidity across all sports, but at least they played for championships and go/went deep in playoffs.

The Cubs 1908 - present

No championships since 1908, no WS appearance since 1945, but they became the lovable losers and always had fun, especially Harry Carrey/WGN years...plus the city has The Bulls, Bears, and Blackhawks.

Red Sox 1918 -2004
Very hard for people to remember pre-2004 just how beaten down the Red Sox fans were. Don't think anybody had more publicized collapses and got closer to titles more times only to have their hearts broken. Most of the time at the hands of their hated rival. Throw in trading Ruth and subsequent curse...it's brutal.

Cubs lost the pennant to the Mets when the Mets had Seaver and Nolan Ryan was a rookie reliever. Cubs had half the All star team. terrific hitting and I think Ferguson Jenkins. The Cubs centerfielder was injured late and Cubs brought up a guy from Class A Lodi (Ca.). He lost a high fly ball in straightaway center in a very close pitched game vs the Mets. Anyone who made it to American Legion would have caught it. Mets did themselves up proud at least.

Cleveland in a landslide.

Boston and Chicago have other championship caliber teams to give them joy.

Cleveland is just a succubus of despair and utter-futility.

If the cave had anyone but lebron I'd root for them

Seriously though think the older lebron got the more he realized the cultural significance it wold mean to bring Cleveland, his home town, a title. He could run for gov if he does that.

his mother hadn't been born the last time the city of Cleveland won a title of any kind

New Orleans Saints 1967-

Took them 15 years to have their first non-losing season
Took 20 years before they ever made the playoffs
Took 33 years before they ever won a playoff game
Where thisclose to going winless in 1980

The Steelers might have that beat. They took 40 years to win their first playoff game.

The Penguins have a similar timeline to the Saints. They suuuuuuucked most of the time from 1967-1985. Their best season in that stretch ended with squandering a 3-0 series lead against the Isles. When they finally became respectable in the late 1980s, the Patrick Division was so tough that they missed the playoffs when they would have made it in any other division.

That's not cursed, that's just being awful franchise.

Things like the bartman incident and Bill Buckner are more indicative of being cursed.

Buckner is overrated. Even if he fields that ball cleanly, it's still a base hit.

Washington baseball has had a rough stretch.

After losing the WS to the Giants in 1933, the original Senators never made the playoffs again.

The second incarnation of the Senators never made the playoffs either; in fact they had only one winning season (1969).

It would not be until 2012 that a Washington DC baseball team would make the playoffs. Even then, the relocated Expos are one of only two teams (the Seattle Mariners the other) still not to have been to the WS (every expansion club excepting the Mariners has made it).

I interpreted this to mean "reasons to celebrate" from a sports standpoint. And going by that, poor Cleveland hasn't had anything to celebrate since the movie Major League came out.

The other cities in this thread have had numerous events to celebrate.

On the south side the Pale Hose went from 1917-2005 with only two pennants. One of which led to half the team being banned for life.

I'd have to say Cleveland only because they've been so close only to have success brutally ripped away.

The answer is Cleveland. It's always Cleveland. And just when you think it might not be Cleveland, you'll remember that Cleveland is Cleveland. So its Cleveland

I would go more specific with Cleveland: their return in 1999 to right now. They've been so absolutely bad in that period, it's almost unbelievable.

It's also hilarious that the club that was the Browns, now the Ravens, has won 2 superbowls since leaving Cleveland, and in that same time period the neo-Browns have only made the playoffs once.

I don't know if anything can save them, there is some serious fricking evil magic on that franchise

They're 87-185 since returning to the league
