yeah I meant future contract negotiations... it'll be interesting when we get to that point.

The goal should be to make the playoffs better right? As it sits right now, not team seeded 10-12 is ever going to win the title. Ever. It's not happening. Doubling the size of the field is just going to expand the number of teams that has absolutely no shot at winning a title. It's dumb. So you're expanding it so the 20th ranked team will sometimes make the second round. Yay!
Most of these people want to go back to the BCS where like 3-4 teams has any shot to make it. None of them wanted 8, which would have precluded Ohio state.
Having 9-24 play into the bracket makes it infinitely better for any fan of a non blue blood.
The best team I’ve ever seen live was 10-2 USC in 2002 who would have beat Ohio state or Miami for the title. To pretend there’s never going to be a team capable of making a run from the playin to the semis or beyond is ignoring what Ohio state did. They got upset a few times not playing their best and got their shite together for a run, and killed everybody in the process. For most of their history, that’s a Citrus Bowl winner
The bowls are dead, nobody cares. This will create meaningful games for more programs. This notion that college football was somehow great when almost nobody had a shot to win it without running the table, often against inferior schedules, is dumb.

You can get all butt hurt and name call but that doesn’t change the reality.
Iowa will
Never win any thing of note and no one cares if they’re playing for the 23 seed

It doesn’t change shite except the arbitrary name of the meaningless game in the title chase

We all eagerly await the day that the #23 seed upsets the #10, at which point America will get the pleasure of watching #23 lose by 30 on the road at #2 as a 3+ TD underdog.
This will all be worth it.
This will all be worth it.

A 24 team playoff will make the regular season less interesting, but it may be necessary in today’s college football. Massive conferences have created major scheduling imbalances, and rosters are turning over almost entirely from year to year. Fans need to get away from the ledge every time their team loses three or four games. An expanded playoff could help. It might also give programs a little more patience with coaches instead of constantly paying tens of millions in buyouts to start over.

I’ll tell you this, it’s a tough scene when your argument for your team is we played a shitty USC team close

I actually agree with him that the first round could be mostly competitive, but that’s only because teams 9-24 are typically average at best and isn’t a credit to the new layout. The real carnage will be in round 2.

Can't wait for a 6-7 Alabama making the Playoffs

There may be a team or two in the 8-12 range that could make some real noise in some years. If so, those teams will beat the dog shite out of 20-24 and would have been in today’s playoff. Most years though, 9-11 is going to crush the last teams in and then get crushed in round 2 and 12-20 are all going to play mid games that equate to the Gator Bowl and pointless to the championship picture.
Which all this accomplishes is when 22 magically upsets a team in the top 5, it goes from ruining one teams season to doing nothing

My annual end of regular season “which team deserves the last playoff spot” argument thread is going to take a big hit.

you have to factor in 17-24 is going to filled with apathic checked out teams that are going to travel to say michigan in december.
these aren't scrappy A-10 teams that are making the trounment for the first time in decades. They will be major college football programs with coaches on the hot seat after losing every rivalry game that season.

Last seasons would have been:
17 Virginia @ USC
18 Arizona @ Utah
19 Michigan @ Vanderbilt
20 Tulane @ Texas
21 Houston @ Miami
22 Georgia Tech @ BYU
23 Iowa @ Notre Dame
24 North Texas @ Alabama
And every single one of them would have been thrilled for the opportunity. None were on the hot seat, Moore lost his mind and got fired. Lost games to 3 playoff teams if this were the format, two were in the top 8.

One team was a real contender on that list and that’s Miami.
Expand the playoff far enough and it won’t be a big deal just like losing the first round of the ncaa March madness tourney
