None of these teams were playoff quality, but Texas Tech earned their way in by winning their conference, which I have no problem with. You are never going to get the “12 best teams” or whatever number, just like the NFL doesn’t, but the solution to that isn’t just adding a bunch of teams that don’t belong

Miami would’ve smoked that garbage 4 loss Iowa team Put down the meth pipe

Iowa played Indiana just as well as Miami did and held them to fewer points. It was tied at 13 with :33 to go and Indianas WR broke a routine tackle on 3rd and 10 from midfield to win the game.

They earned their way by playing in a terrible conference and spending 4x what their opponents spent to secure a roster capable of getting trounced by Oregon?

I think TNT got a few games last year.
ESPN sold some of their inventory to TNT/HBO Max. Last year it was two first round games up against NFL broadcasts.

TNT will broadcast more playoff games this year. ESPN already has a monopoly, but no interest in broadcasting every single playoff game. Now the CFP is giving them exclusive negotiating rights for additional games.

Big deal. Happens all the time. Does that change the fact they played Indiana and Oregon and USC — all teams that would have been in the 24 team playoff — to the wire?

And the AFC South sucks, it’s never going to be 100% perfect, but having Iowa in the playoff just makes it worse not better.

Exactly.

This pisses me off, but Im sure it will be hard for me not to continue to watch Alabama games each week.

BUT, I probably am done watching any other regular season game because teams have 3-4 mulligans and the games dont mean shite.

12 teams was pushing it, but I got on board and I think it was an OK balance and it’s still tough to make the playoff field. So I was still excited about big regular season matchups around the country, like Texas-Ohio State this year.

Next year, it’s tough to a give a shite about any regular season matchup that doesnt involve your team, and then just watch the playoffs. Yay, we are every other boring sport now.

considering you lost to those 3 teams no it doesn’t.

Remember the Nebraska team that went 4-8 and lost all 8 games by single digit scores?

That team was a shirt 4-8 team just like Iowa was a shitty 8-4 team last year

And usc and Oregon sucked arse last year too

yes we know

Even though Iowa state is traditionally a bottom feeder program they tend to beat their instate rival and fellow bottom feeder all the time

I know you have little man’s disease and a reductionist personality as a result, but the basis of the argument is that this will create tons of blowouts. That the 20-24 teams can’t complete with 9-12. I’m showing you that’s just not true.

You are claiming it’s not true, but the actual results on the field prove that it is

Which of those games were blowouts? The argument is that there will be tons of blowouts, not very close losses.

By the way, Iowa kicked the shite out of who would have been the 14 seed out of the SEC in their bowl game.

At what point do we stop pretending they're equal and go ahead and separate the G4 and G6 completely?

Regular season rating are about to go into the shitter. Does that matter in terms of the SEC/ABC contracts? Or the Big Ten TV contracts? Asking because I truly have no idea.

I don't think ratings change the current contract terms. But......lower ratings are definitely going to hurt the TV rights valuation in a few years when the networks and conferences are negotiating the next TV deals as the current ones are about to expire. Going to be hard to get networks to overpay for the media rights if TV ratings have any sort of significant drop off.

The goal should be to make the playoffs better right?

As it sits right now, not team seeded 10-12 is ever going to win the title. Ever. It's not happening.

Doubling the size of the field is just going to expand the number of teams that has absolutely no shot at winning a title. It's dumb.

So you're expanding it so the 20th ranked team will sometimes make the second round. Yay!

Yep.

I would have been 100% okay with an 8-team CFP and left it at that.
