Well that's a reason to enter the draft the next day.

Tech still looks like losers in all this. After all that posturing about support etc, they didnt tell him that until the heat got to be way too much. Tech shouldn't have said so much publicly after this first broke.

The judge comes out as a loser along with some of the State of Tx politicians who side with the judge. Paxton comes to mind.

They weren’t going to risk the Big 12 saying that they were ineligible for the Big 12 championship because they played him. Because the Big 12’s bylaws allow them to do things such as that with only 12 votes, and they would’ve gotten 15 out of 16.
They also weren’t going to risk the CFP keeping them out.
Basically the NCAA couldn’t stop him from playing, but that court ruling didn’t stop the Big 12 or CFP from levying their own punishments for playing him, and Tech wasn’t going to risk their whole season due to that. It’s not a coincidence that they told him that he couldn’t play for them the same day that the Big 12 sued in federal court.

I hope the Big 12 doesn't withdraw their suit

The Big 12 is my new favorite entity. Well played by them. Adults in the room.

I loved that the NFL told him you cant enter the supplemental draft if you are still eligible to play college football.
Let him pay his attorneys to dismiss his own lawsuit.

I’d like to chalk it up to karma but I want to see if he gets his NIL payout first.

Explain to me like I'm 5.
Why could the conference wield power/influence over TT but not the NCAA?

My guess is just like the SEC the B12 had their own eligibility clauses or made it clear behind the scenes that they would face major consequences or forfeiture of games while not having their support in any related rulings if they went down this path.

Nationally? Sure.
Locally? I’m sure they’re just fine and locked up some powerful and wealthy Tech oil donors in the process.

The NCAA ruled him ineligible, they were sued and lost which basically overturned his eligibility status. Therefore, I don't think the NCAA can penalize Texas Tech for playing him.
The Big12 has the right (or that's what they are suing to guarantee) to sanction Texas Tech directly, regardless of Sorsby's eligibility status.

The NCAA ruled him ineligible, then he sued and the judge didn’t rule him eligible, he just ruled that Sorsby would suffer irreparable injury if he wasn’t allowed to play while the case was still being litigated. The case court date wasn’t until February of 2027 (I believe), so in a sense he was allowed to play this season while his case was still pending.
But that was just one judge that ruled that way, and most people didn’t agree with that ruling. Ken Paxton (the Texas Attorney General) came out with a statement saying that basically the state of Texas would sue on behalf of Texas tech if the Big 12 levied any punishments against Texas Tech. This led to the Big 12 filing a federal suit against Texas Tech and Ken Paxton to preemptively protect the Big 12 if they were going to punish Texas Tech.

The NCAA sanctioned the player, state court issued an injuction
The Big 12 attempted to sanction Texas Tech and filed in Federal court, (no local judge)

He's allowed to keep whatever Texas Tech paid him already, but Cincinnati is still suing him for a $1 million.
