re: So apparently UCLA doesn’t want to play at the rose bowl anymore?

Modern stadiums have all the amenities but are just interchangable gigantic sterile piles of glass, steel, concrete, and LED lighting.
There's absolutely nothing appealing about them from an atheistic standpoint.
Surely it's not impossible to build a new stadium with all the perks but still actually has personality and doesn't look like it was designed by a committee of AI bots.

i went to the LSU game also. Pain in the butt to get there. No decent tailgating.
We had zero problems getting there and had a blast tailgating on the golf course. You’re an idiot.

The thing that worries me is that both Rams and Chargies do a fantastic job with their endzones.
Adding UCLA to the mix would almost certainly have adverse effects on the field paint situation

From what I know USC entire campus is surrounded by ghetto
USC is in the Ghetto (South Central, you've seen the movies) and knows its there, so has done everything to make sure its students aren't aware its there.
After the Rodney King riots, a ton of businesses around the campus were destroyed and burnt out. USC went around buying property up left and right around campus to create their Island in the middle of chaos and gang activity. They built the USC Village, housing and their own private Shopping center.
quote:
‘They’re smack in the hood, but they don’t know it’: What South Central locals really think of Trojans
USC is a utopia in South Los Angeles. Students walk a campus protected by “yellow jackets” and DPS officers who monitor every square inch of the university, often completely unaware of the violence and gang-related activity happening a mere two blocks away. Classes are held in multi-million dollar buildings donated by wealthy alumni, which hides the devastation of the poverty-ridden surrounding neighborhood.
In result, USC was coined the “University of Spoiled Children.” The administration has spent the last few years trying to shake the nickname, but do our neighbors in South Central still see us as spoiled children?
“I feel like USC students misunderstand the community because they’re in the middle of South Central, but they don’t know what happens where I’m from in the streets. They’re smack in the hood, but they don’t know it. They need to be more aware and cautious.” - Jameel Hasan, Crenshaw resident
“I love USC students because they’re here in the community. It is a nice college and it’s close by. They also have good games at the Coliseum, especially against UCLA, and I like to go to tailgate parties.” - Big Daddy, Watts resident
And unlike UCLA and the Rose Bowl, the Coliseum is across the street walk from the USC campus. Tailgate on Fraternity Row, on campus anywhere, then walk over to the game en masse as the band and Song girls lead the way, it couldn't be easier.

I read Sofi would be have the distance and lots of students live around Inglewood

The Rose Bowl is iconic and is a terrible game day experience. Horrible lines of sight. Bad concessions and bathrooms.
The plethora of club and box suites at SOFI provides an important revenue stream.
It can be a 90 minute drive in traffic for a home game.

The rose bowl is a piece of shite lol

Well, that’s like your opinion, man. The players do love the playing surface and the Rose Bowl Game is still special. It seems that most of the hate towards the Rose Bowl comes from insecure SEC fans.

Half the distance, way more money, and a modern facility....
Gee, I wonder what they could possibly be thinking, trying to improve on every substantive front at once like that.

True trivia item: When Walter O’Malley moved the Dodgers to LA, the Rose Bowl not the Coliseum was his first choice as a temporary home until Dodger Stadium was built, and it would have been a MUCH better baseball facility, but Pasadena nixed it because the residents around the stadium didn’t want to have to deal with the crowds and turmoil of 77 (at the time) home games.

I “heard” that the fans hate the rose bowl - I have never been but supposedly it takes hours to get out of that parking lot and fans simply don’t show up to the games because it’s a nightmare trying to get out of that place every home game. One dude on the show I was watching who was talking about this said it can sometimes take over 3 hours to get out of that place due to the poor traffic and road designs.
In other words, the rose bowl is actually hurting their home attendance

This is spot on, it is the best setting for a bowl game and I went there so I know the stadium isnt great. SEC fan boys hate on it bc it isnt in the south.

The Rose Bowl is iconic, but it is very far from campus and way oversized for what they need. SoFi is closer and has better amenities, so I understand their desire to relocate.

The Rose Bowl is a wonderful, historic site and should always host the Rose Bowl game. The Rose Bowl is also an outdated stadium that is hard to get to from UCLA's campus and for most of the higher population areas in the Los Angelos area. Ideally UCLA needs to find a site to build a 40-50K stadium closer to campus, but not sure that is feasible. SoFi is a "more practical" option for sure.

The Rose Bowl is iconic. The only reason to leave would be an on campus stadium.
Close friends with a UCLA season ticket holder and have been to many games. The panorama *around* the Rose Bowl is iconic. The stadium itself is a dump that very much feels and looks its age.

UCLA may have 20,000 football fans. Can you say empty stadium

This. I was in the endzone facing the mountains during the AU-FSU championship game, and the view of the sun setting over the mountains is fantastic. But the stadium is a pretty crap place to watch a game, the stands are hella far from the field and make for a subpar viewing experience compared to most good SEC stadiums.
As mentioned the bathrooms and concessions being forever away outside the stadium proper is ridiculous. Pasadena is kinda a pain in the arse to get around and has non-existent parking as well, so I can see the team fans not liking it

Absolute dump of a stadium that's only saved by the mountain view. So tired of fan boys glazing over it.

Lol the ghetto around the rose bowl? Way to show you've never been to the place you're trying to have an opinion on.
