not just that but Texas would want to run everything, they don't want to be on equal footing with anyone else. shite, they'd want the sec offices moved to austin.
they'd also be worried about their national perception. it's much easier to have to go throug OU and win 10 games every year than to go through the SEC.

Precisely why TAMU is ripe for the picking.

So would you agree with me in terms of taking VT over at least 1 of the following: FSU, Miami, GT, and Clemson?
culturally, yes.....over Miami and maybe even GT and/or Clemson. But i take Miami b.c they have a much bigger national presence than VT.
Don't underestimate the fact that FSU, Miami, GT, and Clemson all have natural rivals in the SEC as well. Also, they are all in SEC states when looking at travel time and tradition.
I would still rather VT than Clemson or GT (but they are a nice academic add)....but i can easily see why VT could be the odd man out.

if only the legislature wasn't in the way.

i like the Texas TV markets, but getting a stranglehold on the ATL and all of Florida is not bad either.
Trust me, the SEC has the Atlanta market cornered

It's one of the largest schools in the country in a football crazed region

As a fan, I hate TAMU as much as anyone, but don't kid yourself, they are a catch. Big school, good academics, huge huge endowment (dwarfs any endowment in the SEC I'd bet) and a nationally recognized athletic program. Plus, you get into the Texas market.

while we are flinging shite against the wall why not:
Texas
A&M
Miami
FSU
more sense geographically and TV market wise than OU, and bigger names than GT and Clemson.

they're not overly successful at football
their fanbase is fricking weird
they don't provide one of these mythical tv markets
honestly, other than aggies, who gives a frick about TAMU (and i include TU fans)?

SFP - Mike Slive disagrees with your arguement that the TV deal is locked in if the league grows.
Adding Texas and/or Texas A&M would open SEC up to more households & generate more bargaining power for the TV rights.
Thanks to its blockbuster 15-year deals with CBS and ESPN that began this past year, the SEC's revenue jumped from $132.5 million last year to $209 million this year. Each school received about $17.3 million, and that figure doesn't include local rights. (For example, Florida receives about $10 million a year for its local deal.) Without revealing specifics of the SEC's deals Friday, Slive said most TV contracts include a clause that allows them to be renegotiated if a conferences adds or loses members. So if the SEC expands, it isn't locked into a dollar figure from its TV deals.

i'm sure it's possible, but we risk being left out and ESPN hooking up with the pac16 in a year if we push it
