there aren't that many VT fans there who support the program either
VT is probably the biggest college football fan base here actually, bigger than Maryland and UVA

But I don't think anybody has ever argued that SEC expansion was on our front burner SFP.

SEC officials will do whatever it takes to get Texas/OU/TAMU. Those schools are in play, and I promise you they are working on that as we speak. I don't think the SEC officials will be successful, but you never know. TAMU would make the most sense.

So would you agree with me in terms of taking VT over at least 1 of the following: FSU, Miami, GT, and Clemson?

if your goal was to have a larger SEC presence in the DC area absolutely. But Miami would probably bring in more tv viewers

they can work all they want but UT will never join the SEC. i don't see how that is hard to grasp.

Va Tech/Miami make the most sense out of the ACC. Large markets, national recognition. Georgia Tech would be a tier down, but they are in a big market and are a former SEC team, so there is history there.

FSU five years ago would be a lock, not so sure at this point.

We can't let the Big 10 and Pac 10 grow to 16 team monsters and just do nothing

why?

how does their expansion hurt the SEC?

Adding 4 quality teams will pay for itself in terms of added playoff revenue

there is no such thing as playoff revenue

and a re-negotiated TV deal with ESPN (which WOULD happen)

fantasy

there is no logical reason for ESPN to re-negotiate

SEC would still be hands-down the premier conference if we added 4 from FSU/GT/Mia/VT/Clem. Would the same be the case if we stood pat at 12?

if we produce title-winning teams, our #s don't matter

i mean in terms of raw support

it may be the biggest college in DC, but VT isn't a top earner

people assume they've always been a kickass/dominant program. pre-Carroll they were quiet for what, 20-30 years?

I agree, but you have to roll the dice. Money talks. Who knows, if nothing else maybe the deal is too sweet for TAMU to pass up, and if you don't include Texas in the preliminary negotiations, you might never get the chance to drive a stake between the two institutions.

ETA: Slo, the renegotiations between the SEC/ESPN is a non-issue. Especially if the TAMU market is in play.

if you mean Miami, then VT wins easily. If you mean Maryland, VT still wins

If the SEC wanted Texas, they would have to totally restructure from a shared revenue system to non-shared. I can't imagine any of the smaller current members signing off on that.

they weren't an elite program from the 80s-Carroll.
