Scottie Pippen says LeBron, statistically speaking, is 'probably ahead of Jordan'

It's that time of the year again

quote:

“The numbers don’t lie,” said Pippen. “He’s right there. He probably will never catch him in terms of MVP, but in terms of statistics, LeBron is right there. And when you look across the board, not just scoring — check his assists, check his rebounds — he’s probably ahead of Jordan.”

Smith reacts with his usual bluster, and Kellerman wants his pound of flesh, too. This is, after all, Jordan’s partner in crime en route to the 6-0 Finals record that we all hold over LeBron’s head every time this debate arises. Oh, and it arises — maybe not always this early in the NBA season, but often, perhaps never more so than when James eclipsed Jordan’s all-time playoff scoring record last season and entered the 2017 Finals with a chance to slay the Golden State Warriors dragon a second time.

Well one guy played in college for 3 years while the other one went straight to the league from high school...

That may be true. But is Drew Brees still better than Eli Manning?

eta: I'm sorry I couldn't resist. I'm done.

LeBron is ahead of Jordan statistically. And Magic is ahead of both.

It is more of an offensive league. I'll take Montana over Warren Moon.

This argument only works if you don't consider Pippen an all time great. I do and therefore think Jordan had more help relative to the NBA than James. I would take Pippen and Rodman over Wade and Bosh or Irving and Love.

Considering it was the Bulls that had the stacked teams and not the Knicks, Suns, Jazz, or Sonics and Jordan was always on the better team. I know he had alot to do with it but if you take out Jordan, James and the best player from the opposing team in the finals and the Bulls would have still won. The Cavs and Heat would not have won. That OKC team with just Westbrook, Harden, adn Ibaka would have been better if Durant and James were forced to sit out. A few years ago if the Cavs did not have James against the Warriors then it would have been 4-0.

Jordan and James have both played on stacked teams. The main difference is the league had just gone through massive expansion while Jordan was going 6-0 in the finals. The league now is as talented as it has ever been. Davis and Cousins 20 years ago would have been a top 3 Western conference team, now they cant even make the playoffs together.

Okay. Add Jordan's average for the say his first 3 years and multiply that times 3. Where do they stand? (generally curious)

A little known fact about PER is that hollinger used the assumption that Jordan was the best player of all time when he was tweaking his formula.

Wait, so you are comparing an 18 year old Lebron to a 21 year old Jordan

The bulls without Jordan made the ECsF both years. A former Lebron team has made the playoffs once despite playing in the awful East

The bigger question is who passes the eye test?

That means nothing. That’s more a organizational management decision than anything.

As a major mj fan.. I dont know why this is always such a big deal. Enjoy both of them, they have 2 different games and we can appreciate both. Most lebron haters are here because they are afraid he will pass mj somehow. When in reality their big argument is (6 rings) like that is the standard.. when there are people with more. But heaven forbid you mention stats lol. GOAT will always be a debate, and all one can really ask is to be mentioned in that debate.

Jordan averaged 31.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.4 assists on 51.8% eFG% in his 13 seasons in Chicago.

LeBron has averaged 27.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 7.1 assists on 53.9% eFG% in his entire career.
