For 77 years, the rainbow has been the symbol and nickname for the University of Hawaii football team, spurred on by the rallying cry "Go 'Bows!"

More recently, the rainbow has become a symbol for gay pride, which the school's athletic director said was a factor in a decision to drop the rainbow from school logos and the football team's name.

"That logo really put a stigma on our program at times in regards to it's part of the gay community, their flags and so forth," Hugh Yoshida said after the new, Polynesian-style "H" logo was unveiled this week, replacing the old logo, which had the letters UH and a rainbow.

Yeah, but the thread was schools that altered their colors. Kansas and Pitt did the same thing going to a bad look before returning to form.

Yeah i mean i understand the thread, im simply saying you calling that shade of blue the "new" isnt really accurate.

But i didn't really mean to harp on semantics, so my bad. i should have just left it alone.

OLE MISS - Ole Miss, while having the sky blue helmets in the 80's, seemingly is placing an emphasis on that as opposed to their traditional navy and red

Ole Miss is a 3rd tier athletic program that has no history, so they try something new every so often hoping it sparks relevance.

GT used to look like this...

They barely use navy in their color scheme anymore

Are there any “blue blood” programs that have made major changes?

I suppose notre dame putting a heavy emphasis on green in the 70s was one of the bigger names. But other than that I can’t really think of a classic college football team changing school colors.

What do you mean? They wear navy a bunch. They just wore these the last two weeks.

Baylor’s yellow isn’t “highlighter” yellow.

LSU was originally Navy Blue and White before adopting Purple and Gold.

You won't find any good pictures though because back then it was all in black and white.

Their baseball and basketball jerseys are very close to it. They also wore actual highlighter jerseys in basketball not too terribly long ago.

Admittedly that basketball jersey does look highlighter yellow in that first pick. Then again, the dude looks green, so it might just be the photo.

The football gold is very much corn yellow.

You won't find any good pictures because the athletic teams never wore those colors. In their first football game in 1893 they wore purple and gold. LSU didn't have an athletic program until 1893 in any sport. Navy and white were just the school's official colors back when it was a military school.

I stand corrected. Under CPJ and Gailey, they had largely moved away from it.

I haven't watched GT football in a while. Their fans hadn't, either.
