OSU was getting pressure pretty consistently most of the night.

Obviously the play can work, Steve.
But it's about the downside, which is what ended up happening.

Sark brought in one of the big uglies in the backfield and attempted to RTDB one time. He got stuffed on that play and then appeared to panic and bail.

Got a little too cute with himself at that point and that decided the game.

Seems like more teams are slowly rediscovering RTDB but many teams still seem to possess no real clue or plan on how to punch it in from close range.

Way too many coaches panic if they get stuffed on first down trying to pound it in. Make them stuff you four times.

Huge downside of that play is that they can lose yards and then they are forced into a passing situation that also put them at risk for a turnover. I rather run up the middle 4xs from the 1 and if you stop me good on you. That way even if the other team stops you it's still only a 1 possession game and they have the ball at the 1.

The call to run that toss changed everything.

Correct. My mindset is if my team is on defense I am hoping the other team doesn't run it up the middle 4xs from the 1. 1 yard seems pretty tough to stop 4 times in a row.

Welcome to the Seven Win Steve experience. Such a good play caller for 95% of the game and then inexplicable garbage when it matters.

Texas just isn't that good, period. They lost to overrated Georgia twice and couldn't put away Arizona State until the final minutes with the help of the refs.

He’s screwed either way.

They ram the ball straight ahead 4 consecutive plays and get stuffed all 4 times and he’s also a shite play caller with zero imagination.

Just a ridiculous call and cost them a shot to win.

With the popularity of the tush push I’m shocked coaches don’t have a FB take a thousand snaps in the preseason/practice for this situation. It’s impossible to stop them 4 times a yard out.

No way Sark would have called that play coaching for Saban The Goat would have choked him to death with his headset cord on the sideline.

This is where being in shotgun all of the time is a detriment. You can't really expect to be able to line up in shotgun, w/the RB another 3-5 yards behind the QB(unless you're in pistol) and punch it in at the GL.when everything is compressed.

Line up your heavy package, 22 personnel (I formation), line up under center, and run it right through the A gap, score, and be done with it.

Regardless, you can’t handling that ball that deep in that formation in that situation. When the RB got the ball, he was at the 10 yard line. Given that he had to run wide, he may have needed to run 20 yards to get into the end zone.

Either go up the middle, off tackle, or play action. Don't toss the ball backwards 7 yards.

1st and goal at the 1…and you do not score…with a Natty in the balance?

You ate screwed no matter what…if you do not score that TD. No matter how it plays out, barring a fumble or penalty or boneheaded player mistake.

How about RT #56 totally whiffing on his block on 4th down?
