That's not a bad restructure though; and while perhaps "politically driven" it's geographically sensible and doesn't leave anyone out (assuming that Ge Southern's omission was an oversight). ECU and Temple probably wouldn't go for it unless the music has stopped playing. I don't know how this will stop the callups; belt and/or C-USA would have to replenish. Belt may be better for Tech long-term, but C-USA has a lot less pressure and it may be a better place to rebuild your team.

All of his “eastern G5” conference is from his experience in CUSA. The eastern block in CUSA was never content with the makeup of that league.

The SBC is different. It’s built on regional rivalries, both in the east and west. There is only one outlier and that’s Texas St.

The SBC is stable, much like the MAC with a footprint in the one area of the country that loves college football. If anything happens the SBC will add programs and will do so strategically.

I can imagine the fussy Tennessee legislature limiting travel funds for non-revenue-producing sports.

G5 fans are almost universally die-hard. You have to be.

question: what percent of the average G5 fanbase watches their "local" P5 program?

what percent chooses their G5 in a time slot conflict over the P5 playing a rent a win? a top 10 matchup? watches when their P5 plays for the national title?

There’s a reason why JMU, ODU and Marshall joined the Sun Belt. They’re where they want to be in a league that is a good fit. ECU would be a great fit for the Belt as well, if the AAC sees its stability decrease.

I’m not talking about the entire student body when I say G5 fan. I’m talking about your actual fans; your season ticket holders, your donors, your ones posting on team message boards.

All of them are watching their school over the local P5. Doesn’t matter who that P5 is playing.

what percent chooses their G5 in a time slot conflict over the P5 playing a rent a win? Is this really a serious question? No real fan of a G5 program is choosing to watch a P5 over anything. In fact they would likely watch another G5 conference game over the P5 game.

a top 10 matchup? If it didn’t interfere with their programs game, then yes.

watches when their P5 plays for the national title? Every college football fan watches the national championship. Dumb question.

This is why the 12 team playoff and how the bids are distributed is so important

(But even if 1 bid goes to a G5 school, their games now have national implications)

And you think they are going to pay an 11 million dollar exit fee to make equal or less money and play with Arkansas State, ULM, Texas State and Troy?

nothing will move fast you are right about that but i think the best TV product is the Sun belt + the best of dixie AAC/CUSA teams.

Ultimately it will up to ESPN and not what the schools prefer

which has 40k students. I get no one gives a frick about Texas State football but they have a ton of upside. UTSA has currently taken the shine as the G-5 program in central texas but like Arkansas state or any g-5, they are just a bad coaching hire away from a dumpster fire.

The sunbelt is stable and cohesive. But the east could do it on their own and get the same benefits, without having to travel to La and Texas.
And if the AAC blows up with teams moving to wherever, some group of schools will homestead it to keep the autobid. Otherwise, that's one more bid going to the P5, and lord knows we don't want 7-14 West Virginia deprived of its 7-seed.

That is a terrible idea. The 4 remaining PAC schools should just join the AAC.

Now that Tulane is Power 5 (and counts towards that SEC rule) , sign that 10 year home and Dome.

FIFY. There is no reason for LSU to ever play a game at Yulman.

Also, Tulane is hardly a Pacific Coast school.

But good luck to them if they really want to do this.

They have a university president that has an adversarial relationship with athletics. Their AD is horrible as well.

If TxSt gets it rolling it will be hard to compete. Nicest campus in the SBC West for sure. Great town in a great region.
