Gee, on the other hand, hasn’t wavered. He has supported expansion throughout. Word is, he supports BYU, Cincinnati, Connecticut and Tulane, although he wouldn’t comment when asked Monday. He did, however, respond to Iowa State president Steven Leath’s comment that expansion is “less likely.” Leath told the Iowa State Daily, “I think the chances we expand are a little smaller than it was before.”

“Of course, I was on the [expansion] committee,” Gee said. “We saw all the possibilities of expansion and the opportunities that exist. We also understand there are other variations that can take place too. I happen to be very enthusiastic about expansion, but I also understand it needs to make sense. We need to understand the opportunities and consequences, intended or unintended. I really don’t know if it’s likely or less likely. I think that will be determined by discussions we have on Monday.”

Unless Texas gives in on a couple of issues, like Houston and the Longhorn Network, expansion in the Big 12 is unlikely to progress. A couple of schools with clout have dug in their heels.

A couple to a few times per week.

It's a sheer boredom activity while I'm on the commuter bus to and from work.

the influx of cash would really be a game changer for the university. it'd also be great for new orleans.

Agreed. Can't understate the impact it would have on recruiting as well.

Overstate. Point taken.

If only Tulane were competitive in football, it would be by far the best Big 12 candidate.

So now Gee is in favor of playing the little sisters of the poor.

UT and OU have no incentive or desire to keep the Big 12 alive so it's not happening. Of course the other schools like WV are desperate to find new blood quickly; it's their only hope to keep it going.

Some conferences want a school simply for academics.

Tulane would be about as valuable to the Big 12 as Rutgers is to the Big 10.

Whoa.

We have had some bad years, but we're not Rutgers bad. Tulane has a higher ceiling - see 1998.

Gordon Gee? He's now at West Virginia? I thought they couldn't get any more idiotic up there.
