A-Sun has some quality baseball schools. There is so much talent in Florida it spills over to places like Stetson and FGCU. That wouldn't be a great development for schools like Nicholls and UNO that barely put any effort into their baseball programs.
I can see a scenario where the ASun has several football-only members and the Southland remains in place to sponsor all of the other sports.

Surprising news at first because I haven’t kept up with prior departures from the WAC. I was expecting Fresno St., SD state, etc., and didn’t know the WAC is now FCS in football.
Looks like old southland conference foes for the most part.

This year was their first in sponsoring football. When SHSU, SFA, ACU & Lamar stated they planned on leaving the SLC for the WAC, it was supposed to be for 2022-23 (I believe). SLC leadership got pissed and told them to kick rocks this past summer. So the WAC and ASun formed basically a temporary combined league this year that will receive an auto-bid to the playoffs. They’ll go their separate ways next season.

What do McNeese fans think about the move? Also, what are Nicholls/NWU/SELA going to do?

At this point, you look to the ASun as your savior and hope to join up with Eastern Kentucky, Central Arkansas, Austin Peay, Kennesaw State and North Alabama if they’ll have you.

Boom. I'm a daggum geenyus!

For an LSU, sure. But they’re top 25 in the FCS. Trending the right direction.

McNeese to D-1, this a joke right?

McNeese has always been D1. D1-AA back in the day, FCS now. Caught me off guard that the WAC is an FCS football conference now.

Southeastern and Nicholls (with their recent big investment into the football program) could slide into the ASUN, no problem, but Northwestern seems to be the one left holding the [empty] bag.
Their football program is downright awful, and they have the least amount of Men’s and Women’s sports to offer than any other school (in the Southland or ASUN @ the moment) …. The SWAC would be the best place for them competitively, but that’s not an option, and I think they have the least amount of money when it comes to travel budget, so they’re pretty much up shits creek…

I didn't realize that the WAC had dropped down to a FCS. This makes a little more sense because if McNeese was going to FBS that would be suicide

Why would that not be a option?

The WAC was barely a conference once all of the football schools joined MWC.

Is your question a joke? They’ve been D1 in athletics for quite some time.

So McNeese is leaving the Southland for the Southland West?
I like the idea of us being back with Lamar, SFA, and Sam (even though I hate the fricking bearkats).
Just seems odd that the Southland in 2 years has essentially split into 2 different conferences.
If this plays out, you have the WAC with 6 of the 8 members being former Southland Teams. Dixie and McNeese are the oddballs of that bunch being the only members outside of Texas.
Then you have the ASUN that ends up with 8 members also, with half of those (Central Arkansas, Nicholls, Northwestern, and Southeastern) being former SLC members.
Makes you wonder if everyone just got tired of Southland Conference leadership or something along those lines.

Mcneese won’t be in the wac with Sam Houston.

Sam is going to C-USA, homie. You're going to the WAC with Abeline and SFA.

The entire intent behind the Texas 4 joining the WAC was for the new conference to transition back to FBS football. Going to be very interesting to see where Nichols, Southeastern and Northwestern fall. ASun is their only hope
