Umpires are like law emforcement. You just cant argue with them. You dont have to like what they say or do. But they are in charge and you have to follow there rules and decisions! Otherwise there would be chaos and players and coaches thinking they control the game

Are you serious? Coaches and players argue calls in football and basketball all the time. The games do not descend into chaos.. as far as controlling the game, players and coaches should control the game. Umpires should be impartial observers. They should not be these fragile ego buffoons with the power to throw anyone out because they got their feelings hurt. IMO there needs to be clearly defined conduct that allows umps to toss a player. Questioning a call should not be a tossible offense.

Several things….

1) pitch was not down the middle as the tweet suggested, however it was still a strike. Bad call

2) the catcher’s movement does make it harder to make the call

3) the ump was a douche for getting that aggressive. The clip doesn’t show what buehler did initially but regardless, the ump has to chill

4) frick the Mets

Also, the pitch was borderline, possibly low.
What?

With the catcher getting up, not the best view for the ump. Regardless no reason to start saying FU to the ump- it’s one pitch call. I’m sure Walker has gotten some generous calls before.

If you saw it live, without the benefit of the white box, and with the catcher standing up, so he had to reach down to get it, I think you would not judge the ump harshly for thinking it was low.

The umpire acted like a complete idiot after that, granted. Notice he almost walked right into Sotos bat, when he threw his mask off and started going at Walker. Would have been great if he had gotten hit.

Looked like the FU was in response to being thrown out.

If this ump did not have a reputation for being below average, sure.
The ump was in perfect position to see the ball. Even though the catcher popped up to grab the ball and make the throw, the ball was still above the batter's knees. You can make all of the justifications you want, bad umps will get these types of responses from other players

So, we’re gonna pretend that Buehler doesn’t share any of the blame here?

Also, tell your catcher not to stand up and block the umpires view of the pitch.

Players need to start making the Major League police the most incompetent umpires. When down in a game, teams should each argue and get tossed until there are no players left.

it was right where the catcher was setting up before the runner went

strike + throw out attempts happen all the time

ump has to check his ego in that situation. Tossing a starter in the 3rd for a call you got wrong is inexcusable

The catcher was up earlier than normal.

Yep, this definitely made a difference in the call. The ump was wearing a video cam, and you can see he had no view of the pitch once the catcher stood up. But, he did miss the call, and he acted like a douche instigating the argument with Buehler.

Lindor calling for the ejection from 2nd base is pretty good too. Great Jomboy video, BTW.
