CLEVELAND -- Ted Ginn Jr. returned to Glenville High School on Friday to announce his NFL retirement.

The 36-year-old former Ohio State receiver and returner played for his father, Ted Ginn Sr., at Glenville before moving on to the Buckeyes and the NFL.

"I've dedicated my entire life to football until now," Ginn said. "I'm going out in peace. ... On my own terms, not forced out."

Ginn spent 14 seasons in the NFL with Miami, San Francisco, Carolina, Arizona, New Orleans and Chicago. In 193 regular-season games, he had 412 receptions for 5,742 yards -- averaging 13.9 yards a catch -- and 33 touchdowns. He also returned four punts and three kickoffs for touchdowns.

How are you going to remember his career? For some weird reason I remember more of his playing time with Ohio State than I do with NFL teams.

14 year career as a WR in the league. That’s awesome.

What’s amazing is he was still a deep threat at year 13. He had real speed and real skill. Good for him

He made me money.

Had him at +1200 to score first TD(For Saints) in playoff game. I knew he would get a chance at a quick slant and possible long td. Boom.

Ended up being a solid WR

I had them to win and was counting my money after that TD. I was a young and immature gambler at the time.

I'll always remember that because both in that game and the Super Bowl that year the losing team ran back the opening kickoff for a TD, Hester in the SB.

I was actually coming here to post that.

I enjoyed watching him return punts more than Hester. Hester made you miss, but Ginn just had this simplicity to his. A stride that looked like he was gliding while being the fastest guy in college football

Bizarre player who was kind of a bust but also outlasted everyone in his draft class.

he had a TD vs. Carolina in 2017 that broke that game open. The first meeting of three that year.

everyone had written off the Saints with them losing to Minnesota and New England to start that season.

Saints slapped Carolina around that game and also beat them 3 times with ole Scam Newton at QB for Carolina.

Ginn also caught a long ball in the wild card game vs. Carolina to start the scoring in that one.

I looked up his stats to tell you he had a better stint with the Saints but I was mistaken.

I don't know why but I thought he played with the Saints longer than 3 years and had more success than he did.

the year Carolina made it to the Super Bowl vs. Denver in particular.

He had his best year for the Saints in his first year. After that not so much but he couldn't be denied to still make big/meaningful plays.

He had a unique career, that’s for sure.

For returning that kickoff against Florida and mysteriously having a game ending injury.

For some reason I think if his college career more than his long NFL career.

I'll most remember him for breaking his ankle on the opening kickoff in the 2007 BCS National Championship Game.

Probably didn’t live up to the expected production of a top-10 pick, but to be a speedster he had a solid career. Hard to hate a guy that stayed in the league for 14 seasons and had some significant contributions.
