I think Ginn returned kikoffs and punts as well early on his NFL career before settling down to just being a WR. He lasted because he was a football player more so than a track guy having played since he was a kid with his Pops coaching him and all. He did run track in HS and was a fast straight line runner that wasn't that elusive in putting down moves to make tacklers miss like say any of a number of past LSU PR could do starting with a Odell Beckham. But it's usually the guys that ran track mostly in college and then tried to cross over into football that did not last long, they were the ones that could not take the pounding of an NFL.
Ginn Jr was mostly a football player at Ohio St and not so much the track guy there, so, you can say he's mostly been a footballer his whole life which is why the pounding from the hits didn't bother him as much and he didn't get hurt as much.

Probably remember him more for OSU and the fact that he seemed like a Boom or Bust weekly in fantasy football.
