They'll be media darlings and get run out of the stadium the first time they play someone with a pulse. It's a tale as old as time.

Even if it was LSU at #1 it's a worthless opinion at this point in the season.

Yep. They'll never do it but rankings shouldn't even be a thing until at least week 4 or 5.

With any other team, you are correct. The difference with ND is they are the only team in the countrybwith a guaranteed spot in the playoffs if they end the season ranked in the top 12. Where they start can absolutely make the difference between them and another team getting in at the end.

They would have to talk about the actual football if they didn’t have rankings this early

That game was much closer than the final score. Of course Freeman wanted that extra TD at the end to make it look like they dominated

Their schedule is a complete joke

They can sleepwalk their way into the playoffs at 11-1

Networks gotta be able to advertise early season ranked matchups or they won’t make money! Won’t someone please think of the poor global media conglomerates??!

Can you name the last time ND was “run out of the stadium” by a team with a pulse?

Also one of only two teams (UConn being the other) that has a 0% chance of making the CFP if ranked #13 or below.

Yep, because his backups allowed TDs last year to Pitt and Stanford (and Syracuse when it was 70-0, which also sounds better than 70-7) and it was part of the calculation that cost him the CFP. He’s now playing with the way the system entails, like Cristobal did with Beck throwing bombs against those teams while up 21 with 5 mins left. This is what the current system asks for.
