I don't think a whole lot of GMs are going to answer the phone when the Ravens call anymore

Until there is a deal to be made and/or desperation sets in. Everyone has to act in their own self-interest. If the Ravens are an opportunity for the best deal the GM will work with them....even if he doesn't fully trust them.

EDT: There are PLENTY of business deals that get made every day between people/organizations that don't like or trust one another. Because the bottom line is you do what's best for your or your company. If dealing with the Ravens is the best thing for an opposing GM in that particularly situation, he will 100% deal with the Ravens. Same for players.

The irony is the team on the "losing" end of the deal, whose former owner/GM spoke the truth few want to admit

VERY clear they saw how soft the Trey market was and decided to go that route instead and keep their picks

Agreed in principle, one such stipulation being he’s not a cripple

He's not a cripple.

Mahomes would fail a physical today. They went in KNOWING he would fail the physical because passing one is impossible

They saw Trey's market was soft and shifted gears

Scum

The melting over this is bizarre. Genuinely. It’s like people don’t know how trades work

Agreed. Do people not understand due diligence? When you sign to buy a house but your inspector finds out the foundation is fricked, will you still close on the house? No.

They knew he was 8 weeks out from knee surgery, he was never going to pass a physical. They knew this before yesterday.

That's one perspective.

But others may say "smart." They bailed out of a bad deal, or at least a lesser deal, to make a better deal (in their opinion). They weren't going to get a consolation invite to the playoffs if Crosby was unable to perform and the price, they paid to get him wasn't worth it. On the flip side, they and their fans won't give a shite about negative press or the negative opinions of people who are NOT Ravens fans if they have success because of backing out of a deal.

Ignoring all the other stuff I don’t love the Hendrickson deal for the Ravens. He’s 31 and coming off a pretty underwhelming year and serious injury himself. I know it’s only 2 years but I could see it ending up pretty bad

Obviously

But you didn’t read what I posted Hendricksons injury he is coming off of is far more difficult than Crosby. A hip is so much worse than a freaking meniscus

The excuse they gave was that Crosby had a knee repair, not a knee trim as was originally reported. A knee trim is typically 4-6 weeks of recovery; a knee repair 3-4 is months.

On that basis, it sounds reasonable for them to back out…

Except here’s the thing. There was a story that came out two weeks ago revealing that Crosby had a knee repair, not a trim. That’s been publicly reported information for at least a full week before this trade was announced. So that they ravens are now using that as their evidence of crosby’s health being insufficient is, at its very core, an excuse. They had that information before the trade was made. If that was something that scared them off of Crosby, they never would have made the trade in the first place.

It’s very obvious what happened here. The market for Hendrickson was cheaper than the ravens realized, and they didn’t like all the crap they were getting in media for making a bad deal. So they invented an excuse to back out of it.

Not for evidence of injury, but for buyers remorse. Plain and simple.

A public story isn't going to constitute "information" adequate enough to decide 9-figure decisions

Stipulations existed and stipulations were not met

These melts are cringe. Entertaining, but cringe

League should honestly take away those picks they were going to give the raiders. Make an example out of them like the saints. #PhysicalGate

So they could do their own due diligence on the injury, surgery, or recovery. It’s possible (unlikely, but possible) that the Raiders weren’t forthcoming with the severity of the injury / surgery. Ravens likely won’t comment on that though, so we’ll never know.

It’s becoming clear the ravens are just using the physical as an excuse but some of you do know that injured players in trades aren’t actually doing athletic workouts for a physical right? The “physicals” on injured players is basically doctor exams and MRI/Xray reviews with other tests.

Some of the posts in this thread are worded like people think the Ravens were asking Crosby to do shuttle drills or surprised he couldn’t run when he showed up for a physical

Baltimore knew what they were trading for. They changed their mind and backed out. Full stop.

I love how one of the worst-run franchises in sports that’s absolutely desperate to shed cap doing this isn’t even registering as a possible explanation to so many. It’s baffling
