I think it's pretty obvious that Minnesota outplayed New Orleans in that game, but I do think the Saints were the best team all year.

The 2004 Patriots are easily the best, most complete Super Bowl champion of the last ten years. They had no weaknesses. The Patriots could run the ball, throw the ball, and were elite defensively. They also played against the toughest competition in the postseason. Peyton Manning was in his absolute prime in 2004 and the Patriots completely shut him down and held the Colts to only three points. They thrashed the 15-1 Steelers on the road. The '04 Eagles was also by far the best team that Andy Reid ever had and the Patriots ended up beating them as well. These would be my rankings of the Super Bowl Champions from the last ten years.

1. 2004 Patriots
2. 2009 Saints
3. 2010 Packers
4. 2008 Steelers
5. 2005 Steelers
6. 2003 Patriots
7. 2006 Colts
8. 2012 Ravens
9. 2007 Giants
10. 2011 Giants

Honestly, it was very hard to differentiate between the two until they played head-to-head.
yea the Vikings statistically "beat" the Saints and were the better team, but the Saints still won even though they aren't as good.

That logic makes so much sense

5. 2005 Steelers

That team was loaded with talent. Hines Ward. Young Willie Parker. Jerome Bettis for short yardage. Heath Miller.

Randall El in his last above average season. Ben's 2nd season.

They were the 1st 6 seed to win a Super Bowl.

That defense...

Polamalu in his prime, before his body starting breaking down.
Farrior in his prime.
Foote in his prime.
Casey Hampton still in his.
Kimo von Oelhoffen.
Young James Harrison.
Joey Porter in his prime.
Aaron Smith.

You know as well as I do that McCray is a fricking piece of shite. He repeatedly hit Favre late and it was almost never called (due to the game being in New Orleans).

You mean like the giants Dline battered Brady, and the 9ers did to Eli last year(SIGNIFICANTLY worse than what Favre got), and pretty much every championship team in history did/tried to do to opposing quarterbacks...It's fricking football Nancy... and it was the last game to go to the superbowl...the quarterback is going to get hit...and hit...and hit. The only problem is those others mentioned were in the prime of their careers and could take it while Favre was a geriatric. Sorry the Vikings couldn't get to Brees.

I had the 03 team over the 04 team in my rankings, but after going back and looking at their results you're probably right. The 03 team always stuck with me because of that 15-game winning streak to close out the season, but looking back they could have easily lost a few of those.

The addition of Corey Dillon in 04 made that team stacked.

they finished 7th defensively and 7th offensively, so they were pretty balanced.

Saints had a better offense, Patriots had a better defense. Saints were better at running and throwing

The top 3 teams are easily the Saints and the 2 patriots teams.

All 3 are probably interchangeable

It's interesting how mediocre most of the rest of the 10 are.

The Vikings dominated the NFCCG and would have easily won if AP hadn't fumbled like 8 times

Saints never trailed after 10:30 to go in the second quarter either.

Yards are low because of short fields. Field position tends to be pretty important in a game

well 1 of his fumbles came after reggie dropped a punt inside the 10, so that is a wash.

Other than that, he didn't lose a fumble. He is credited with 0 lost fumbles in the game. Saints were pretty good at forcing turnovers (39 in regular season )

09 Saints were a fluke. They were inferior to the teams they played in both championship games but won due to some luck and a great onside kick call
