A 5-1 turnover margin is a pretty big stat to lose.

Also a 1 game sample size doesn't make Minny the best NFC team that year.

That's akin to saying the 07 Giants were a better team than the pats that year based on the Super Bowl.

Based on things outside of that 1 game there is a significant argument that NO was clearly the best NFC team in 2009.

not to mention

- they had 1 more regular season win than Minn

- was 1st or 2nd in the league in forced turnovers

- #1 in offense

-rattled off 13 straight wins

- the murdered teams with HOF QBs- Brady, Eli and Kurt Warner. And then beat Favre & Peyton Manning back to back to win the Super Bowl.

I guess you forgot that the Patriots beat them in week 17. Like I said, there can be a difference between the winner of the game and the better team.

Please enlighten me.

I don't think the better team turns the ball over four times more than the opposition.

Even if the QB, who is the most turnover-prone QB in NFL history, accounts for three of those turnovers? The last INT in particular was a horrible decision more so than a good defensive play.

does this tie in with the super bowl being given to us because of katrina?

Minnesota raped the Giants 44-7. They beat Aaron Rodgers twice.

Both teams crushed their first playoff game. Their season long statistics match up to one another fairly well. Brees and Favre were the top two rated QB. Both had high octane offenses.

Honestly, it was very hard to differentiate between the two until they played head-to-head.

If the QB is statistically the MOST turnover prone in history that's a much more likely reason why that team is NOT as good as the other team.

If the qb was statistically not turnover prone and it was just a 1 game sample size of random ints that's something you can explain away.

But to statistically have a qb that turns it over more than the other teams qb that's a pretty big negative when judging the 2 teams against each other.

So now we're parsing through the quality of turnovers to argue that the Vikings were better?

like i said, the Saints were +1 in wins and sat everyone the last game and lost to carolina.

you're probably looking at a 14-2 team had they played the full season

and the week before Hartley missed a FG in OT to beat Tampa.

dont know. i think the Saints were the best team. Considering they didnt play their best game vs Minn and still won

That was more or less to point out Favre's history of fricking up, not an indictment of his 09 season

Well, Favre had the best season of his career that year (33 TD, 7 INT). He had more TO's against the Saints than any other team all year and his lowest QBR of the year, so yeah, that game was Favre's worst.

Putting the ball on the ground 5 times and throwing a late interception is the real reason the Vikings lost that game.

At which point the Saints won. Deal with it. The 5-1 turnover ratio in favor of the Saints is exactly the same as it was when the 9ers beat us last year in the playoffs, but you don't see me bitching about the 9ers getting "lucky" or some shite like that. They were the better team and deserved the win.

And Pete Morelli is calling Favre a liar in your article. Try harder next time.

Well, that one pass was intercepted. Kind of a big deal.

Les, I can post that if you want. Regardless of what Favre says, the Vikings found themselves on the short end of a quite a bit of calls.

They can definitely blame themselves for their mistakes (especially 12 on the field), but there was no doubt that the refs (intentional or not) gave the Saints a nice advantage.

ETA: You can refute it all you want, but the evidence of bad calls that are potentially game-changing are on tape.
