He's compared it to baseball several times and swung and missed every time

So my original post was about basketball, and others joined in with the baseball field analogy so I merely indulged them. I'm just tired of the oos and ahhs after a 7 footer drunks the ball when I see teenagers below 6ft jam in pickup at the gyms I frequent.

'm curious how the game might be affected by this slight variation. Would y'all support this change or be against it? Personally, I don't think it's impressive when a guy with a 7 foot wingspan dunks when he barely has to get off the ground to do so. Maybe it would ruin the impact of rim protectors, but it'd be an improvement to the entertainment aspect of the game based off sheer athleticism needed to throw it down. Plus, hitting a deep three seems to be more appealing to fans nowawdays than most uncontested dunks so what's there to lose? This has probably been discussed on here at length before, but I think it's becoming more of a relevant question to ask since the overall athleticism of players has been going up and up for decades.

Leave the goal at 10ft, restrict the number of dunks to 5 per half, now those white baws will find their niche in the game, a new era of Pete Maravich and Larry Bird types running and gunning.

That shite honestly made my day. If I could start shitty threads every day on the MSB that sparked some yo mama banter I'd be so happy.

You're acting like 7 foot players are unfairly using their height to dunk on small people. 7 footers are being defended by other 7 footers most of the time, and if they dunk on them, they deserve oohs and ahhs.

I really don't even get your point.

If you raised it to 11 feet, then shorter guys who CAN dunk now wouldn't be able to anymore. Then you'd ONLY have 7 footers dunking.

Your whole point just makes no sense.

Dunking on a 10ft goal is overrated for NBA players. There'd be plenty of players outside of the center position able to dunk on 11feet. The decrease in number of dunks would draw far more attention to when players do dunk.

1) no you don't

2) are these imaginary jumping phenoms being met at the rim by a 7'2" center?

If tigerdrippings would have been around when the 3 point line was created, people would have freaked the frick out

That is a huge fundamental rule change that happened

Less dunks and less scoring sounds like a real improvement to the entertainment aspect of the game?

Yea, no.

That's like saying less homeruns makes baseball more exciting.

No it fricking doesn't.

I don't agree with the OP. But will play devils advocate since he is getting crushed and has presented his argument terribly

When basketball was created, a dunk would have been viewed as difficult. Reaching the rim was only done by a select percentage of players

Now, 99% of the league can dunk. Therefore, the fundamental art of dunking has completely changed. Raising the goal to 11t would put dunking back to the purpose of how basketball was created to be played

Now I don't agree, but that is how the OP should phrase his argument

Under your brilliant direction, this would instead have been a lay-up:

And I would respond that just because that's how the original rules were doesn't mean the original rules were better.

When football was invented, couldn't you not pass the ball forward?

OP has a good point. Basketball is not meant to be played above the rim.

It's like a circus show. Freaky tall people instead of being in a tent are making millions. Then it's like trapeze artists swinging in the air. I use to like watching, now I hate it.

Basketball needs more Steph Curry, less Manute Bol.

I guess you haven't watched in a while, but that's the direction the league has been going for years. There are not many players who are 7 feet tall anymore.

The big men now are expected to be mobile and able to shoot the ball.

Oh yeah? Who said?
