Jon Stewart had a great rant about this: The man lost a testicle to cancer. You go through that, I don't give a damn if you get a jet engine implanted in your arse.
And cycling is so dirty. Everybody cheats. A cyclist doping is like a stripper getting implants -- it goes with the territory.

Not a single Astros fan is allowed to disagree

Anyone who cries that he "destroyed people's lives" is soft.
But he did and he sued people into oblivion for making true statements
This is what cost him his reputation, ultimately. Was he doping, sure. Were the people he beat also doping, undoubtedly. Did he start the doping trend, not even close. Did he successfully avoid getting caught better than everyone else at the time, he did.
If he had laid off being a dick toward people who were telling the truth, he would be held in higher esteem than he is.
To paraphrase a note in the article linked below, after Armstrong was stripped (he actually never failed a test in his run if I recall correctly) no winner was named after Armstrong disqualified. Six of the seven overall runners-up to Armstrong (all except Joseba Beloki in 2002) have either admitted to or been found guilty of doping.
Cycling may be the dirtiest sport of all time when it comes to doping. Check out the chart of winners that have been DQd for doping.

The most fricked up thing about it is that he became a global symbol of cancer survivability and health all while taking drugs that could increase the chance of cancer, HGH and IGF, and blood doping, which has killed cyclists.

Him getting busted for doping was heartbreaking to a lot of people that looked at him as an inspiration of life after beating cancer.
Him simply competing in his sport at the highest level after beating cancer should have been inspiration enough for anyone facing the same circumstances he did. Regardless of the fact that he doped, his return to competition is still inspirational in and of itself. And he still generated a metric frick ton of money for cancer research which, cheating in his sport or not, is beneficial to a whole lot of people.
I can see being heartbroken if you looked at him as a role model which I guess many people did, but his story of overcoming (beating) cancer is still impressive.

If anyone thinks the top tier of cyclist weren't all doping as well, you are living under a rock, Lance was just doing it better and got caught, the reason we don't hear about the rest of them is because they didn't dominate
