Hate the notion of, “speed up the game.” You pay good money for the tickets, players are paid well to play. Why are we paying more to have shorter outings?
There’s a LOT of down time when nothing is happening. The time between innings is way too long. I appreciate that they are trying to make pitchers work at a reasonable pace.

I want to see them challenge the MLB record of 51 minutes

That’s why I always go to 2 games when I go. Mostly cause I get 2 chances to see a W but for things like that

I don’t like it.
As others have stated, baseball is the one sport that is more about the “experience” for fans. Football and basketball fans don’t spend time exploring the stadium or venue like baseball fans. I mean, they have purposely reduced the time of the game, but you’re gonna pay the same for tickets, concessions, etc. Manfred is literally squeezing that money out of you.

Does baseball really need more of this?

Exactly. The time between pitches can be achingly slow.

"SPEED UP THE GAME!!!"
"SLOW DOWN THE GAME!!!"
Maybe I'm just old, but in my mind, I see going to a game as a day's event. You're paying for the ambience and atmosphere, as well as seeing it live. Why in the frick do you want to rush it to finish?

I went to a Pirates game several years ago that turned into a pitchers duel and finished in under 2 hours. It was interesting because of it being such an outlier.
1:49 is a massive outlier as far as game times go. Baseball has a lot of variables and you get what you get.
Personally I like the pitch clock. Games were moving way too slow and in 2021 the average game time was 3 hours and 11 minutes. It's now down to 2:40 as of this year. That's a comfortable mix between action and leisure at the game. Over 3 hours for an average is a lot of dead time at a game.
For those "baseball games should be long" pseudo-traditionalists, from 1901 when they started keeping game times until 1978, the average game time was under 2:30. Through the 80's it was still around 2:35. '87 and '88 games times got longer. It was the late 1990's when game times started getting close to 3 hours.

I'd Love it. I'd sit in the stand and sing Go-Cubs-Go and then get beers for at least a bit cheaper after at some of my favorite Wrigleyville bars and restaurants.

I agree and I feel the same about idiots who complain about a round of golf taking more than 4 hours.
