I thought they said no death penalty?

In the late 90s, didn't Outside the Lines or some other investigative outlet do a show on JoePa covering up brawls, rapes, drug dealing & using, etc, by Penn State football players?
If that was indeed the case & JoePa covered up for Sandusky & who knows how many transgressions over the years for former players, then the Nittany Lion football program deserved to get hit with major penalties.
The cover up of child molester is as bad as it gets but who knows how many college girls were sexually assaulted or people physically assaulted over they years by football players only to have it covered up by the "Penn State Pope".

It's probably a fake leak anyway. It's not called I-AA anymore, unlikely a reporter or anyone else with access to info would refer to it as such.
Posted on 7/22/12 at 10:10 pm to volfan30
taking them down to 1-AA, damn that would be something...
owlie, if what you and volfan have posted is accurate, this is worse than the death penalty....
i wonder how they handle the eligibility issues?
then the issue of how these football players will be treated when/if they transfer...

"Worse than the death penalty" is what we've heard from the beginning.
Posted on 7/22/12 at 10:13 pm to OWLFAN86
I honestly think that if they do get the death penalty, they shouldn't receive any sanctions afterwards. Let them start over.

I question that leak because I don't think they would allow the new school to go over its limit of 85 if they accept a transfer from Penn State. I guess maybe it makes more sense if it's just for this season, and then they would have to be back to the limit for next year...but it seems like a bad idea to me.
But the 30-60 million figure being thrown around probably makes sense if the bowl and TV ban is that long.

As I understand it
theyre are a few on some radars already, dont ask me how I know
theres also some talk of extending eligibilty for seniors,, give em ALL one extra year
and for those that dont tranfer they still have full rides at PennState

Agree. 2 year death penalty would clean house completely. Let them start over as a new program fresh after that.

They should get the death penalty. Too many people involved. Think of the number of victims and what was done to them.
Is it fair to current players? Probably not, but the same thing happens when other schools are put on major probation - it usually occurs after the players/coaches involved are gone.
Penn State football is ruined for a long time. They should close it down for a few years.

Urban Myer is ALL over it already
so if Pitt
Rice might pick up a couple of O linemen and a kicker that are from the area,, good news for them they start right away

No way the punishment is that severe. That's not a death penalty, that's a Holocaust.
Posted on 7/22/12 at 10:23 pm to Monticello
owlie, do you think there would be limits on how many could go to a particular school?

The NCAA and Big Ten have been exploring options after independent investigator Louis Freeh said top Penn State officials - including former football coach Joe Paterno - "concealed" what they knew about sexual abuse on young boys by former football assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. Possible punishments could include suspending the football program, a bowl ban, scholarship reduction, and redistributing the school's conference revenue.

Am I missing something or isnt that tantamount to a "death penalty"?
I thought rumors were that was off the table.
