Patriots have been shopping around Mac Jones this offseason

No, things aren’t going well between Patriots coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Mac Jones.
Following the posting of the item regarding the lingering tension between coach Bill Belichick and the 2021 first-rounder, more information has trickled in.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Belichick has shopped Jones to multiple teams during the 2023 offseason.
The full list of potential destinations isn’t known. The teams mentioned as potential destinations were the Raiders, Texans, Buccaneers, and Commanders.
Obviously, a trade hasn’t occurred yet. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen. A team hoping to draft a quarterback could pivot to Jones, if that team doesn’t get the guy it wants.
The Raiders are the ones to keep watching. Jimmy Garoppolo‘s contract lands in the low-end of middle class for starters, and Jones has two years left under a slotted rookie deal, before his fifth-year option would apply.
Complicating the situation is the fact that owner Robert Kraft seems to be a big fan of Mac Jones.
“I’m a big fan of Mac,” Kraft told reporters last week. “He came to us as a rookie. He quarterbacked in his rookie season and did a very fine job I thought. We made the playoffs. I think we experimented with some things last year that frankly didn’t work when it came to him, in my opinion.”
While Kraft continues to defer to Belichick when it comes to running “my football team,” Kraft may not be thrilled about the prospect of parting ways with Jones. And Kraft seems to be sympathetic to frustrations that trace to the failed offensive experiment in 2022, with Matt Patricia serving as the coordinator.

Probably be able to get something if they offer Zappe.

BB has always been a LSU fan at heart. By which I mean more enamored with the backup quarterback than the starter.
FWIW Parcells was similar. It seems likely that his ability to win a superbowl with more than one guy influences Bill B. From that era there was also the Gibbs experience of winning with three different starters: Theismann, Williams, and Rypien.
NFL coaches sometimes want to be high school coaches and get a larger share of the credit.

I'm pretty meh on Mac

He played in one of the most QB friendly systems we have ever seen his rookie year. Do you think he could outduel Allen, Mahomes, Hebert, or Burrow anytime soon? Bad schemes don't account for throwing balls into triple coverage, or acting like child anytime something went wrong.
He can turn it around, but personally I don't think he will be a top 7 type QB in this league.

Fwiw, a lot of the local guys have come out and denied it.
That’s why I ignore anything from Florio. Too many times he’s been proven to be wrong.

No surprise. Played in front of 3500 fans during his best season with an all-star supporting cast.

Yes, I think Mac could outduel Burrow.
I don’t think he’s nearly as good as those guys, though.

Well he gets this year to show if he is or not. BoB is a terrible GM, but he knows how to coach an offense. Pats have meh skill position players, but they have been looking at the top Wr talents in the draft. If Mac can't show massive progress this year, I think he's done in NE.

You should realize you sound similar to the LSU homer claiming Fournette is as good as Henry.

Belichick’s abysmal personnel decisions have cost the Patriots for the past few seasons. He once had the touch, he’s lost it. Seems to me that he’s been drinking the kool-aid big time when it comes to how great a roster manager he is.
Plus, I mean he’s just old. Maybe the game is no longer suited to his style?
This is not to go easy on Mac. He blows.

I can’t think of an analog for what the Patriots attempted last year.
Pair a 2nd year QB with a DC who is calling offensive plays for the 1st time in his career then surround said QB with possibly the worst skill player group in the league then bench him periodically when he struggles.
It looked like BB was actively trying to sabotage the guy for reasons known only to him.

Belicuck is absolutely 100% to blame for Mac’s regression and the offense being putrid. His coordinator decisions were retarded level thinking, everyone knew it would be an implosion.
I would personally want out if I was Mac

No I absolutely do not

If he gets a solid offense around him and still isn’t solidly above average then I wouldn’t blame NE at all for getting rid of him

His one glaring major weakness has always been scouting WRs, and we're now in an era where you need multiple good WRs to win.
