Poor ole Dak is sitting over in a corner. No one ever stands up for him, but he’s taken more bullets than either Lamar or Kyler.

And before people start losing their minds, remember that Mahomes was asked this question, he didn't decide to wake up one day and talk about the plight of the black QB.
doesn't matter, they're gonna lose their minds anyway.

Oh how I wish we could escape this crap. Murray is his own individual and the team probably has their reasonings for the initial contract they proposed. And it doesn't have to mean anything about his race. So many bring up Jamarcus as an example who probably should have had this type of contract. It was made known he didn't study. Perhaps Murray has similar issues, but I can't say for sure. The team should know.

quote:

Obviously, the Black quarterback has had to battle to be in this position that we are to have this many guys in the league playing,'' Mahomes said Friday after the Kansas City Chiefs concluded a training camp practice. "Every day, we're proving that we should have been playing the whole time. We've got guys that can think just as well as they can use their athleticism. It's always weird when you see guys like me, Lamar [Jackson], Kyler kind of get that on them when other guys don't. But at the same time we're going out there to prove ourselves every day to show we can be some of the best quarterbacks in the league.''

Everybody has to battle! It is the freaking pros. And WTF is he talking about proving they should have been playing the whole time. These dudes have been stars. There has been tons of black starting QBs for quite some time. People who want to win do not care about race. Period. Like give up already. Everybody is busting their arse.

And of course black QBs can think and be smart, but Murray is his own individual. Lamar Jackson is his own individual.

Russell Wilson would never have these types of questions. It's not a race thing. It's the individual. Tua, who I recognize is Samoan would never have study concerns. It's the individual to me.

Going by his own argument, shouldn't he be only half mad?

Isn’t Kyler like half Asian?

Everything said about Kyler, Lamar, and Mahomes is warranted anyway.

Kyler admittedly doesn’t study. I know he put an act on yesterday, but that’s not what he said last year.

Lamar is all wheels and once those are gone, he will go the way of Cam Newton.

Pat Mahomes is a bit first and second ready. I don’t think he is dumb by any means, but he isn’t a pure pocket passer, read the entire defense type guy. He checks 1 and 2 and then runs around until someone gets open.

Uh...yeah, stopped reading that right here.

This entire argument is invalidated bc Josh Allen got the exact same “athletic but not a skilled passer” treatment all the way through last season. Last season, defenses decided to just take the deep ball and the first read away from Mahomes and Allen, and both proved they can go 2-3-4 reads and make plays consistently

He didn't go full into the BS but still too far IMO. As said already all QB's get scrutinized.

Dual threat QB’s in general have been looked down on for a long time. See Tim Tebow. If you can’t throw the ball at a consistent elite level in the NFL, you will be dropped quickly or moved to another position.

Cam and Lamar can get away with more because their athleticism. Josh Allen could too.

Difference is that Allen became a pretty damn good passer going 2 years now. Lamar had one elite season, followed by another good one, and regressed to bottom 10 (only taking into account passing. He's an elite runner). Same with cam.

Athletic qbs need to adapt.

When you have certain big name QBs who flamed out for certain reasons, stereotypes are born.

JaMarcus Russell and Michael Vick in particular has a rep for blowing off film study. Difference in the two is that Vick was athletically gifted enough to cover for it while JaMarcus purple drank his way out of the league.

I think I was blessed with the cognitive skills to just go out there and just see it before it happens,” Murray said, via Sarah Kezele of 98.7 Arizona Sports. “I’m not one of those guys that’s going to sit there and kill myself watching film. I don’t sit there for 24 hours and break down this team and that team and watch every game because, in my head, I see so much.”

Why are people getting upset about Mahomes answering this question with an honest answer?

This is all true. Most Black QB's had to change positions, if they wanted to play for a well-known college program that wasn't an HBCU until the late 70's. Vince Evans, who played at USC in the 70's, was the first NFL starting QB from a major conference. Neither major college coaches or NFL owners didn't trust them to be their team's leader.

Guys like James Harris, Marlon Briscoe, Joe Gilliam, all battled for camp opportunities, to make teams, and to get to start. They paved the way for the guys playing today. That's exactly what Mahomes means by:
quote:

"Every day, we're proving that we should have been playing the whole time.
By "We" he means Black QB's in general. It makes complete sense.

The 70's weren't that long ago. Patrick may have uncles who went through that.

Let's be honest, until Warren Moon, won all of those Grey Cups in Canada, then came to Houston in 1984 and won, Black QB's weren't really trusted by most NFL teams. They probably weren't all convinced until Doug Williams won a Super Bowl in 1987.

The question was asked because the person asking the question has an agenda or at least a preconceived narrative. So the next step is to ask a leading question that produces an answer that fits the preconceived narrative and/or agenda and the story follows. That’s how the media works. Sports writers are especially prone to virtue signaling.

Yes, at one time, the NFL stunted the growth of black quarterbacks. That was last century and we’re well into the 21st century.
