I’d be absolutely embarrassed if my team complained about a league play a team ran and kicked everyone’s arse.

Why can’t the Eagles petition for no passes longer than 10 yards? Oh they won’t because they’re not pussies. Jesus this league is going to hell in a hand basket

So when the running back is staying on his feet when getting hit and 3 or 4 OL and others start pushing the guy 5, 10, sometimes 15 yards down the field and in the endzone, from behind, we are still good?

That should also be a penalty, again. Just like it used to be.

Good luck stopping it without being offsides

It gets stopped all the time when Jalen Hurts isn’t the one doing it

I have a problem with the NFL making something illegal that basically only one team (Buffalo's QB sneak isn't designed the same way) can do very well. If even a third of the teams in the NFL could do it, and it was detrimental to the game, then outlaw it.

The reason it is successful is the freakish build and lower body strength of Hurts and the strength of Goddert pushing. Hurts also has the innate ablity to feel where the gap in the scrum is and exploit it. I don't think there has been another tandem in NFL history that could run that play any better.

Another thing Philly does that makes the play work is Hurts creating early momentum and moving into the Center to initiate the snap, without it being obvious. The way they move together as a single unit, perfectly time the movement without a procedure penalty, and gain leverage better than their opponent is fricking awesome. I'm not a Philly fan, but I geek out like a nerd (obviously) when breaking down that play.

Because LaFleur can be a goddamn idiot with the offense. And we have an athletic quarterback who is absolutely zero threat to run the ball for some reason and it kills so many drives. Now I’m getting all fricking worked up.

You didn't know he's an offensive genius? You do know he worked for this guy?

The push to ban this (no pun intended) is shocking

Why? It's illegal to pull a player forward to gain extra yardage so why shouldn't it be illegal to push forward?

Yes, it's illegal to pull a player forward in football, and the penalty is a loss of 10 yards in the NFL. This penalty is called "helping the runner" or "assisting the runner".

Where's the difference in pushing?

Because pushing isn’t illegal. As others have said, if they’re committing some sort of motion or formation penalty, call it. But to say, please ban this, just because you can’t stop it is soft. And I say this as a diehard Packer fan.

I’m actually heading back for the draft so keep an eye out for me. I’ll have Packers gear on.

Amazing how many running backs have that same lower body strength and don't use them in their own Brotherly Shove. They'll put them in the wildcat with all kinds of responsibility but refuse to line them up under center and push. I've seen tight ends run this play with success. But no one has the conviction of the Eagles to stay with it even when it has been stopped.

Simple solution, make pushing illegal in all instances. All you have to do is say a ball carrier cannot be aided in forward progress by a teammate through physical contact.

Then you're not specifically banning the "Tush Push" or the "Brotherly Shove."

The funny thing is the Bills ran it all year to great success
The bills had the highest rate of conversion for the tush push all season. Higher than the eagles

People watched one game and assumed the bills just lost their minds

The context is that it was illegal until 2005, though. Pushing is an innovation. Also, the reason the NFL allowed it doesn't really justify the intentional push. The NFL changed the rule because stopping pushing was too hard to administrate, not because it was a return to the game of yesteryear or a desirable innovation. It was hard for refs to penalize.

The main reason is you are putting a player under center for the first time all game at a time when a seamless snap with perfect timing is required, with the drive, possibly the game, on the line. I dont believe there is enough time in practice or a live ball scenario available to get the timing down to approach what the Eagles are doing.

I do agree it can and should be utilized by teams with less athletic/powerful QB’s. Of course, by lining up in that formation, you are allowing the defense to sell out to the sneak.

Which makes what Hurts and Philly does that much more impressive. We are lining up in this formation, with these players with these known responsibilities, and running this play right up your arse. Now try to stop us.

All that makes sense, but net net is that it is and has been legal, it's just hard to stop. Kudos to the Eagles for seeing the opportunity and mastering it.

Keep in mind it's legal for the defense to push too.

If they "find" that there's a safety concern that would be the loophole they'd need to essentially ban it, but reffing to whatever that rule would be would likely be difficult as well. I haven't watched enough replays of that play to see if there's any kind of forward motion before the snap by Hurts...that would be another way to stop it, but that's just calling an already existing penalty.

Ya, for a board that bitches about Refs every game, and I mean every game, they want to add more rules? Again I’d be embarrassed to have my name attached to a petition to ban plays, especially a QB sneak, lol
