Should give Oakland a call first. I think they still have some 2014 picks available.

if they franchise a QB won't he get in the range of 20 million a year?

isn't that a lot more than he would be able to get as a free agent?

So they tag him. Then he is set to make $14 or so million. Wouldn't that price tag make it hard to trade him?

Maybe not that high, but it's going to be a lot of money.

New team is only making trade for Flynn if they get a long term deal agreed to.

14 million is a little high for him...

It'd be a great deal for Matt but it could end up screwing GB hardcore.

what incentive would Flynn have to make a long term deal?

He'll get $14 or so million next year with practically no risk of injury and then come out next year with pretty much the same situation he has this year.

a long term deal probably means a pay cut in year 1.

I love Matt and hope he does well but $14 million is a tad much

Thanks for fleshing out my thinking a bit. That is what I meant but did a poor job of making my point.

yeah, long term security is important if you're taking 60 snaps a game with guys trying to kill you

not so much if your biggest threat is straining your neck during a photobomb

They can't afford two qb's at that price tag. Would be funny if nobody offered them anything and they got stuck.

Adds a bit of complexity to it but nothing unheard of before. The Schaub deal to houston was contingent of a long term deal worked out.

Very risky for GB.

Locking up Flynn means they get the right to trade him, a la Cassel with New England, but doing so puts a $14 million hold on their cap room until he's dealt with one way or another.

I know they've got Finley resigned now, but the risks that Flynn signs the offer sheet and that teams drag their feet on trading for him could cost them dearly when it comes to signing or re-signing players.
