Overlooked in Falcons' choke: Refs reversed on-field call b/c Cowboys couldn't challenge

I thought that was bullshite when it happened, but I figured it didn't matter because the Falcons were going to win.
The long pass to Gallup before the 2-minute warning that set up 1st & goal. They called it incomplete on the field. Then the officials "conferred" and called it complete.
I'm sure there was NO discussion in the conference that the Cowboys were out of timeouts and if they called it incomplete, they couldn't challenge the play. So they called it complete, made the Falcons challenge it, and made them lose their final timeout.
And that was a play were there was no definitive evidence that either his arse or elbow came down first. So whatever way they ruled, there wasn't enough evidence to reverse it the other way.
So did the officials fix it so the Cowboys could get a break? That would never happen, right?

They didn't point it out on the broadcast for some reason, but I could clearly see his left elbow hit in bounds before any other part of him hit.
The broadcast focused on his right elbow and his arse.

You seem like you are really asking for honest answers here

Did he catch it or not?

This happens fairly regularly, as different officials have different viewpoints.
Heck in the Falcons vs. Pats SB, one of the officials called the Edelman catch incomplete before the other guy came in and overruled him.

I’m gonna downvote just because you’re a crappy poster.

I still can't believe Dallas came back and won the game after that horrific first quarter.

NFL requires two touches to be in CMON MAN

The Julio dropped TD followed by a penalty on 4th and 2 was a bigger turning point. If Julio catches that, Atlanta wins.

Not exactly. You remember John Madden with his "One Knee Equals Two Feet" bit?
quote:
ARTICLE 3. COMPLETED OR INTERCEPTED PASS. A player who makes a catch may advance the ball. A forward pass is
complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) in the field of play, at the sideline, or in the end zone if a player, who is
inbounds:
(a) secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and
(b) touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and
(c) after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, performs any act common to the game (e.g., tuck the ball away, extend it forward, take
an additional step, turn upfield, or avoid or ward off an opponent), or he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so

I mean, isn’t that what you want the refs to do in that situation? It gives them the opportunity to get the call right.

It was his left hand / elbow bracing actually but it wasn’t perfectly clear. So you had one foot and one handish.

That’s not how it happened. One called it complete and the other incomplete initially. At least that’s what the announcers said.

Racist1992 first cowboy thread of the year.

that non call on the pass inference tug in the 1st half should tell you all you need to know about NFL refs. Nobody could be so inept and keep a job without it being intentional.
