I understand completely that not everyone has as much time to spend every Thursday Friday and Saturday night watching football. But I watch a ton. And if u think the sec deserves 5 layoff spots you are very naive.

Ive seen good execution on both sides of the ball this year by quite a few teams. And a lotta them don't play in the sec. Lord knows lsu cost ourselves a ton of games by bad execution.

So when you argue more sec team should be in because they are 'the best teams"

Are you saying execution doesn't make you a good team if u have worse athletes?

That phantom holding call on a key third down to keep USCe from scoring the winning TD against Bama may prove to be the difference between a playoff birth for either team.

Way to go, SEC!! Never, ever change.

Why didn't you also complaint about the refs not calling two blatant DPIs tennessee did against Ryan Williams in the endzone?

Cry about that as well

This is why the whole set-up is a joke. None of those 4 teams remotely deserve a top 4 seed.
They made it this way, so the championship game carries a lot of weight. Obviously winning the conference, on its own already carries weight but you could get teams like Texas, Oregon, Penn State, Georgia to just chill next week.

It's funny to me that the SEC (and the B1G) upended the sport by creating superconferences and chasing the intoxicating TV money. Now, they are reaping what they've sowed and crying foul because they're knocking each other out of playoff races due to schedules. Everybody loves the fancy facilities and stadium upgrades until they see the price they've paid.

There's a shift in the power balance nationally because the SEC and B1G are cannibalizing themselves. The committee is at a crossroads -- do they grow some balls and punish 3-loss teams, or do they cave and allow preseason and recruiting rankings to determine the playoff field?

Didn’t watch that game and don’t care. Bama has been the beneficiary of rigged games and altered narratives that one call that didn’t go their way won’t move the needle for many fans. Sorry not sorry. Bama is likely going to make the playoffs regardless because Bama.

Since when? Bama disagrees.

I agree. The conference winner should get in but shouldn’t be guaranteed a top 4 seed.

Agreed. I honestly didn't know they were

Shows how much I've stopped caring about college football.

I thought the point of this whole thing was to get the best 12 teams on the field.

Is there any argument to be made that Alabama is a top 12 team in the nation other than the script "A" and that Saban now works for College Gameday? They don't rank among the top teams in the SEC offensively, they rank among the bottom of SEC in rushing yards allowed, their ppg allowed is very skewed because of the cupcakes they played out of conference. This Alabama team is not a top 12 team, they just aren't but the committee will force feed them down our throats again and the rest of the nation (me included) outside of Bama fans will rightfully complain about it up until when they ultimately get eliminated in the first round and all those stumping for Bama's inclusion get exposed for the idiots they are. Even the real Bama fans don't think they belong in this playoff, that speaks volumes.

My comments are more against schools like SMU getting top 3 seeds than pro-bama. Point being that they are going to get smashed, and it will be boring to watch. There are several other teams I would put in ahead of Bama.

So head to head no longer matters after that was the argument used to put Texas in over Bama last year?

Noted.

How do you know this, though? Vandy & OU were going to get smashed by Bama, Michigan was going to get smashed by OSU, Syracuse was going to get smashed by Miami. At what point do we acknowledge that games are won on the field and not by bookmakers in Vegas?

In your hypothetical, SMU would've won a P4 conference, and I agree with the CFP that they should reward and incentivize that. If the bracket were released today and SMU was slated to play the winner of Indiana/PSU, you think both those teams would smash SMU?

Maybe.

But if that is the case Indiana should be dinged as well. They played FIU, W Illinois and Charlotte.

Indiana is a nice story. But them being a lock for the CFP simply because of their record is absurd. While not completely their fault, they fell into an absolutely horrible schedule outside of the game @ OSU...in which they were completely outclassed.

Not only did they miss playing Oregon and Penn St, they didn't even play most of the "second tier" Big 10 teams either such as Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Rutgers. Of a 9 game conference schedule they played 6 of the 7 worst teams in the Big 10. Their best win is a 5 point victory, at home, over a 7-5 Michigan team.

Ole Miss has a win over Georgia. Tennessee has a win over Alabama. Alabama has a win over Georgia. Georgia has a win over Texas and Tennessee. Any of those teams likely goes 11-1 vs. Indiana's schedule. Hell, South Carolina may have too.

In the NCAA Basketball tournament the selection committee doesn't simply look at records and call it a day. They look at how many games you won against good teams and where you beat them. Indiana hasn't beaten a single team even remotely close to the top 25, let alone in CFP contention.

BYU should be in or at least under serious consideration if SMU wins the ACC. They won @SMU. They're 10-2. Fairly close loss @ also 10-2 ASU and a bad loss to an unsuccessful Kansas team that got hot for a while. Decent other wins @Baylor and blowing out Kansas State. Is it an obvious killer resume?

No, but they're 10-2 and would have a marquee win. If you just say Kansas = Vandy where a mid team can get feisty and dangerous for a while, are the 9-3 teams really bringing better resumes? They're #12 SOR, right behind South Carolina and Alabama. They should at least be thrown out as an option instead of being dismissed.

I agree with you, and the loss to ASU could look a whole lot better come Saturday afternoon. But that is going to be seen as an outlandish thought because Ole Miss & Alabama have a bunch of recruiting stars on their roster and even more conference pride.
