Ole Miss should be in if SMU wins ACC. USC is also more deserving than Bama.

These are the teams that should be in. This is not a projected final ranking, just a list of 12:
1. Texas/UGA Winner
2. Oregon/PSU winner
3. Clemson/SMU winner
4. ASU/Iowa State winner
5. Boise/UNLV winner, possibly Tulane if UNLV wins.
6. Oregon/PSU loser
7. UGA/Texas loser
8. Tennessee
9. Indiana
10. Notre Dame
11. If SMU loses, at least somewhat respectably, SMU.
12. Ohio State
If SMU wins ACC CG or possibly if SMU loses by 3+ scores dropping SMU out of top 12:
12. Ole Miss
Both Ole Miss and USC deserve to be ahead of Bama.
Bama
Lost to a mediocre Vandy and OU. Lost to OU by 21 points.
Did beat USC, but only by 2 points at home.
Ole Miss
Won @ USC 27-3
1 loss was in OT @ LSU, 1 loss was a one-score game @ UF, and their worst loss was by a FG to UK.
Beat UGA by 18 (Bama beat UGA by a TD)
USC
Ending season on a 6 game win streak with final game a win @ #12 Clemson.
Lost by only 2 to Bama and only 3 to LSU.
All 3 teams have a top 10 strength of schedule.
1. Texas/UGA Winner
2. Oregon/PSU winner

4. ASU/Iowa State winner
5. Boise/UNLV winner, possibly Tulane if UNLV wins.

This is why the whole set-up is a joke. None of those 4 teams remotely deserve a top 4 seed.

If they win their conference they do. That’s how sports work.

The annual Jon Ham pot stirring playoff pick thread has arrived

The only way South Catolina gets in is if Bama and Ole Miss do too. I don't see the committee jumping South Carolina over 2 of the 3 teams that beat them

Crap, I forgot about Ohio State.
OP revised accordingly.

Ever watch the NCAA basektball tournament? Plenty of non-league champions get seeded above league champions.

Winning your conference has to count for something.

I agree. The conference winner should get in but shouldn’t be guaranteed a top 4 seed.

It should get you in that’s all it should guarantee. The fact Boise might get a bye is a joke.

USC is ending its season on a 6 game win streak. Bama lost to OU last week by 21. Bama’s win over USC was only by 2 points @ Bama.

I’ve been accused of being pro-Bama in the past during these discussions. This should put that to rest. Bama has a higher rated SOS and a win over USC. If I was pro-Bama I could easily argue them over USC.

Bama also beat Georgia who stomped South Carolina's best win by 30. Bottom line, there is no chance that the committee puts in a team that lost to Alabama and has the same record as Alabama in the playoffs instead of Alabama. There is just no way.

Ole Miss should have entered this week ahead of Bama but since Ole Miss entered the week behind Bama and the final games they played shouldn’t move the needle, Bama is likely staying ahead of Ole Miss, which again, is wrong.
USC is the only team of these 3 that you can say moved the needle in their final game by winning @ Clemson. Is that win enough to jump two teams who both beat USC? I think it should be enough for USC to jump Bama, but then that means they also have to jump Ole Miss which is much more difficult to justify.
Both Ole Miss and USC would deserve that 12 spot over Bama should it come open.

Carolina was dominating LSU and lost Sellers during towards the end of the game.
Wouldn’t be a discussion if Carolina didn’t lose.
LSU would rather play Ole Miss again than Carolina. Both have good defenses but Carolina was destroying LSU most of the game.

That’s how this dumb format works, not sports.

college football fans are the only people that cry about a team getting a bye for winning their conference/division because they are in a weaker division.
we get it, you want 6 SEC teams in the playoff because they are better.
what is your reasoning for not just wanting the top 3 SEC teams in?
sometimes in the NFL one Division is stacked, they still don't pull the whole division in the playoffs. the same with baseball with the Yankees/Red Sox division in the past.
it isn't about putting all the best teams in the playoff, it's about taking the best teams from each division. 3 SEC teams is plenty, no point trying to split hairs on which 3 loss team is more deserving when there are 3 sec teams with only 1 or 2 losses
