I’ve driven through there probably hundreds of times and I didn’t even know they still had a high school.

Them and Basile played a semifinal game TWICE due to a tie and ties in tie breakers a few years before bro mart and neville did(even the "glory days the history of the catholic league claims that 72 game was the first time and only time that happened - they were also wrong in claiming the final game Neville and Airline was a blow out - it was a one score game).

Unfortunately it's a nationwide trend for small rural schools and makes $$ sense.

Springhill also comes to mind as a power that is no more.

Maybe it played out like the Alabama LSU championship game where one team just was not scoring no matter what… probably more common with 70s offenses

Springhill is North Webster now

no the reporter talking about it said Neville beat them by 40 or so points or something to that effect.

All 4 teams in the semis that year had crazy good defenses.

It seems like alot of lot of schools in the northern part of the parish have consolidated, more so than in the southern part of the state. I wonder if that will ever happen in South La.

We need to do a thread on all the closed B and C schools. In 20 years that class won’t exist.

Pat Minnifield was a stud in basketball. Think he was all state starting in his 5th or 6th grade year.

Catahoula and LaSalle were one parish prior to 1910.

The schools in Catahoula have needed consolidation for awhile and it should have happened 30+ years ago when Enterprise shut down and the writing was on the wall that a trend was beginning. I should have graduated from Catahoula High School (Block High 06)

Man. To think about the football teams that could have been with Block and SI together coupled with the cupboard of athletes Harrisonburg always kept that never got a chance to play football. Hell, even Central had some ballers in the late 90s early 2000s that were natural athletes and could have easily excelled in football. But like most rural areas we had years of multiple powers that be who couldn’t get out of their own way and didn’t want to be known as the ones who “closed our school.”

St Bernard and Plaquemines used Katrina to consolidate

Jefferson just closed Grace King and Helen Cox along with Ridgewood closing recently

Orleans closed Dolores Taylor Arthur and MLK Charter and I think International High too. They merged Rosenwald with Cohen…

Atlanta blew us out every year in the 70s. Larto and Enterprise were a guaranteed win. Class C will disappear as the small schools close.

They were a powerhouse in the 90’s too. They were class C and one of their state championship teams had 4 of their starting 5 go on and play college ball the next season. That is unheard of for class C and B schools.
