You'd have to get the buy-in from the CFP committee to reward tough scheduling (which they clearly don't now)
OSU now finds itself in the same spot as Texas last season. Texas went 9-3 last year with one of its losses being @ OSU. That kept them out of the CFP behind Oklahoma who Texas beat 23-6. If Texas plays and beats Ohio instead of losing to OSU, they are in ahead of Oklahoma.
If OSU ends up 9-3 it is likely they will be left out in favor of a 10-2 team or an undefeated G6 teams who played a weaker schedule. The CFP committee is telling coaches that playing a terrible schedule and avoiding risk is the way to get to the CFP and that a win over a marquee non-conf. opponent doesn't mean all that much.
Of course, rather than recognizing that and encouraging more games like OSU v. Texas, the CFP just wants to expand the field to allow everyone gets in as a participation trophy

The casual viewer is why I don't have to hope for Jefferson Pilot or pay for TigerVision.
Don't get me wrong, I know we all loved the old awful-quality JP broadcasts, but the reason we all loved them was that we got to see games we would otherwise not have seen.

It’s a testament to how strong the loyalty to the sport has developed over the decades. If the current trajectory holds, I doubt we will see these same ratings in a few years.
