Ohio State and Texas are bigger draws, combined. We likely won't hit that number but will be close. The drama is the big draw, but Ole Miss doesn't draw that many viewers so it's a little one sided. That game was 2 big draws, not just 1.

Numbers like this should encourage the sport to build around these big time out of conference matchups.
But cfb is a dysfunctional circus.

Two big name programs from two different parts of the country with utter garbage for the rest of the games that day. This is t some huge shock.

It was Sark/Texas players pooping down their legs in the first half and Day/OSU players doing it late.
That game really should have been like 17-10 OSU at the half, then OSU is less conservative and playing a different game in the second half.
Texas was going for it inside their own half of the field in the 3rd quarter. They had to be desperate early and it paid off.

For people like you and I, it sucks. I wish it stayed at 4 teams. But for the casual viewer, the sport is growing. And that’s all the networks care about.

My opinion is that the early season games will go, but the ratings will be just as good or better for the playoffs
OSU/Texas don't have any reason to play in September if they potentially have 5 playoff games in December/January and there is a better than 0 chance they are playing each other in those playoff games.
I think if they decide to move to 16/24, then the big nonconference games will just go away naturally because no reason to risk not being in the playoffs and throwing that money away for the conference.
Texas 2025 is a prime example, if they don't play OSU they make the playoffs and play someone likely in the same realm of talent as OSU, still get a top level game, and get the payday for making the playoffs

Yep. They want Joe in New Jersey to watch college football. It sucks for people that actually love college football for sure.

Exactly. Tons of NFL fans have always laughed at the way college picked their champion. With an expanded playoff, I think you'll see NFL fans enjoying the college game as well. CFB doesn't really exist in the northeast. The networks want to change that.
