uga now potentially doesnt play in atlanta in semis.

This should never be a thing. No team should have a big advantage in the semis or finals. It will happen of course sometimes but those 6 spots randomly rotate right?

Also, why would rotating from 2/3 change where the semifinals were? I think bowl tie ins only matter for the quarters?

I think Georgia will beat them in a game very similar to the one they lost to Indiana. I don’t see Sayin being effective against them.

They wanted Ole Miss and Georgia to eliminate one of themselves. Can't have too many SEC teams in the semis.

i dont really disagree here at all, but unfortunately it does exist and playing close(r) to home is considered an advantage for the higher seeded teams. most teams do not have locations as close as atlanta, i understand, but we do. that is not in my control.

i honestly don't have this selection process for location down yet in year 2. it might not matter at all. i think if indiana loses, though, that it could come into play? anyone can feel free to correct that or let me know how exactly it's gonna be decided.

tOSU lost to the #1 team by 3 at a neutral site.

UGA lost at home to the #9 seed by 3.

It really changes nothing. You face Ole Miss or A&M if a higher-ranked team wins in round 1.

Well they actually guaranteed an SEC team in the semis with this Chicken.

So really they want to make sure at least one SEC teams gets to the Semis and they made sure it happened.

inconsistency is basically the committee’s brand at this point

Whereas in past years, CCG losers dropped at least 2 if not 5 (Oregon in 2023) and 6 (UGA in 2023) spots after CCG losses.

4 team playoff off vs 12 teams. Also in 2023 after the conference championship games were played you had a 13-0 Big 10, PAC 12 and ACC champ as well as Bama at 12-1 who beat UGA and a 12-1 Big 12 Champ with a head to head over Bama. Georgia dropped because other teams won their conference and had better or identical records. In the 12 team playoff off the value of conference titles isn't the same as it was in the 4 team playoff. UGA still gets a bye and a match up in a rematch against Ole Miss with their coach gone which is a big advantage over being the two seed and playing Miami or A&M.

The biggest part here is that I think if UGA was the #2 seed, they would have placed that game in Atlanta for the Peach Bowl since UGA is the higher seed.

Now that game is in Arizona, so that is a pretty big deal.

We need to get rid of the committee and just use a suite of computer models to smooth out any odd stuff a single model might produce.

I love how people think computer models are some objective sentient AI or something and not just a formula made up by someone like Nate Silver.

Peach Bowl was never an option for the quarters.

Rose, Cotton, Sugar, Orange.

Semis are Peach and Fiesta, and the finals in Miami.

Are the computer models tweaked mid year to the get the desired outcome?

The idea that an algorithm isn’t biased by whoever created it seems very 2005. Comical.

It's obviously biased based on the factors chosen and the weight given, but if people know the exact formula and how it's designed, they can plan their schedules and game plan strategies on that rather than a subjective eye test that changes every year.

I think UGA should be the 2.

Ohio state played 1 decent team all year and lost

UGA is 2-1 against CFP teams. much less ranked teams.

Your terms are accepted, Ohio State accepts the easier path

CFP hates the SEC and wants the Big 10 in the better position.

Of course and they may have been in 1999. But how exactly have the biased humans “tweaked” things to get the desired result? The only poll that matters is the last one, the mid season ones are all for show. If anything Notre Dame being in would be a more “desired” outcome.

I still don’t care, but I do agree with you. I would put UGA #2.

Clearly I was discussing the semifinals, as this thread is about the seeding of Georgia and Ohio State.
