Yes. Houston, Phoenix, and Atlanta will eventually get a team. The only mystery is who gets the 4th?

The series we've expected to be good, have been good. Other than the Pennsylvania series, which might go down as one of the worst 2-3 matchups in the current playoff format.

Montreal/Tampa, Buffalo/Boston, Utah/Vegas, and Dallas/Minnesota seem primed for 6+ games. If those go the distance, it will be a great first round.

However, if Dallas wins tonight that series is likely done early which takes some drama from the big picture.

Atlanta moving is a direct result of the NHL's inability to vet ownership. They have gotten better, but for a long time, the NHL was way too haphazard with who they let own teams. The Atlanta Spirit group was a such an abortion that it would make a very compelling TV show.

Phoenix wasn't far behind. Both are fantastic markets, bit both were poorly conceived. To their credit, the NHL has gotten this correct with the last few ownership groups its approved: Foley in Vegas, Viola in Florida, Dundon in Raleigh, Smith in Utah, Leiweke in Seattle.

The NHL had to sacrifice the Atlanta market to get rid of the Spirit group. There's no universe where the NHL would rather have a franchise in WPG than ATL or PHX. But, they did what they needed to do in order to get rid of some deadweight owners in both cities.

Probably not, but if they do like proposed and move it outside of the city like the braves did, it might work this time. I already consider that one a forgone conclusion though. Too much smoke there. Phoenix is less than a year removed from not being able to sell out a 2500 seat college rink

That would be great, but my guess is the NHL goes to Houston/Phoenix/Atlanta first
