District champs still automatically get in.

The official seedlings are out but not the brackets:

Select

Non-Select

Based on the above, Chalmette and Ben Franklin are going to bump Airline and Comeaux, respectively, from the playoffs by virtue of winning their districts despite having a lower power point ranking.

How did that game against Live Oak go last night?

St Amant scored 6 unearned runs against LO in that win at home against LO's #6 pitcher.

Due to the automatic district champion rule, Chalmette will receive the No. 24 seed
in Non-Select Division I & Ben Franklin will receive the No. 24 seed in Select Division I

I tuned in in the middle of the game, but when I tuned in, St Amant was winning 6-2. Then Live Oak chipped away and scored 5 in the 5th I believe to take an 8-6 lead, then they scored 2 more in the 6th to make it 10-6, and that was all she wrote. Bats went cold and we made some miscues in the field in the second half of the game.

What’s crazy is that we’d be hosting round 1 if we were in the select bracket.

I feel like nonselect being better than select in baseball doesn’t get talked about enough. Only Catholic and Jesuit would host in nonselect from the select side

I'm not seeing much for pitching beyond Moran.

The Owens kid for LO looked legit on the mound to close it out.

Pitching definitely not that deep this year. Have a LHP named Layne Swanson, who’s actually pretty good as well. Moran definitely the best pitcher on the staff though. They have some other guys as well who are good high school pitchers and players. Get a win when Moran throws and then try to scrape together one more win in Games 2 and 3. Pitching staff may not be as talented as last years team, but they’re still good and they’re coached good too.

(8)St. Amant will play the winner of the (9)Parkway/(24)Chalmette series, then winner of that second round series will more than likely get a date with (1)West Monroe in the third round.

At the top end absolutely. As the schools get smaller the selects seem to be more talented.

D1 non select is going to be an absolute war - any of the top 5 could win it if they get hot at the right time, especially with one game semis and finals. But the select side looks like it’ll be the Catholic BR Invitational.

In D2 the select side seems much tougher overall. All four of the top seeds could win it, and the 5 seed Vandebilt Catholic is the defending champ. D2 non-select may have some hidden gems in the lower seeds, but appears to be two teams in Lutcher and N. Vermilion that could easily win the select side too, but not much else past those two teams.

For that matter, D3 select may be as good or better than D2 select. Their whole top 10 is good, and a top 4 of St. Charles, Pope John Paul, Notre Dame and Dunham is as competitive as any other division in the state. Their 8 seed U-High played for the D2 title just last season.

So if Chalmette upsets Parkway they will have to travel again to play St Amant?

What a ridiculous district this year.

2 Barbe
3 Sulphur
4 Sam Houston
6 Southside

That’s STRONG.

Yep

Which is at least manageable travel. I won’t make it to Parkway but I can make it to St Amant. I was at that game last year and our softball game at East Ascension and honestly, we need to play those teams in the regular season

Everyone talks about our weak district but our nondistrict schedule wasn’t much better despite playing 5 of the 7 (and Karr wasn’t one of them) Catholic League teams and Fontainebleau and Destrehan

Easily the best district in the state, year in and year out.

I gotta say, Southside has been pretty impressive with their athletics since opening up. How bad is Lafayette at baseball now? They used to be one of the top programs every single year. Seems like Southside may have really hurt them.

you're right. That top 5 is going to be strong. I predict there to be some upsets in this bracket in the first rounds and possibly in the 2nd round as well. This new format will give 17-24 a real chance against 9-16. It is going to be fun to keep an eye on.

in 5a thats the case, in the lower divisions, not so much.

and in 5a always only been catholic and then one of the nola catholic schools being realyl good on yearly basis in baseball. sometimes you get 2 or 3 in nola but other than that its slim pickings.

now lower level, st louis, stm, parkview, nd, teurlings, VC, ed white etc are all really good.

Kids from Lafayette moving out of older part of town towards Youngsville area. Better ballparks and got that travel ball lifestyle going.

How is Barbe not the 1 seed? They are top 3 in the country and are 33-1 with a 290-run differential.
