New Golfer - Seeking Advice

Posted by sig3197 on 7/13/25 at 11:24 am
My daughter is 16 and she has come to her mom and I wanting to learn to play golf. She is my most athletic child, but hasn’t found a sport that stuck other than making Tik Toks. She has done many sports and activities since she was young: competitive cheer, dance, softball, powerlifting, and volleyball. She loves volleyball but got started late and while she works hard, over and above the school requirements, she is way behind. And that is causing her limited practice opportunities on her team and she is quite discouraged.

In any regard, golf. She thinks she wants to try golf. Where would you recommend in Baton Rouge region for lessons and beginner access to the game to help her learn how to play?

I play and I by most standards suck. Scoring mid 90’s and once a year upper 80’s. I would be a bad influence on her if I tried to help her. I appreciate anyone taking a few minutes to even consider responding and am grateful for any responses.
Question - Seems obvious but I don't want to assume. Today is just the last day that a player can enter the portal, correct? The recruiting continues until school starts in August. There isn't a mad dash to get destination decisions in today, correct? Or am misunderstanding the process?
I got the chance to watch Ruiz (Lamar) in a 3 game series this year and was very impressed. You can watch a game and see that some players are just different, he is one of them. Here or elsewhere, he will be successful. I happen to know some people from Livingston, TX which is his home town and they say he is a class human being.

Then he pretty much spent all the money the university had in reserve. It is now begging the state for funding to keep it afloat. As an Alum, it is sad to see.

UNO has to rebuild a complete roster. If the coaches are the primary reason, may be a chance to go with them.
Project, i have a question about staffs. Will the skillset of managing a roster in this new environment with NIL, etc. that P4's be a prerequisite for a P4 head coaching job? i.e. Josh Jordan to Duke is more likely now than a Mike Bianco from McNeese going to Ole Miss. If so, do you see some mid-major HC's look at P4 schools for top asst jobs in order to have an opportunity at a bigger school that the mid-major that they were in. It is a new dynamic on the resume.

Andrew Gipson, HC at Belhaven new UNO coach.
Northwestern State 10 run ruled them with a weather delay.
With a new president being named today, I am anxious to see their philosophy on athletics. Could be a telling sign to the future of the university. The last President drained university funds to salvage athletics, to turn it around the new president but probably more so the community has to get behind fundraising. Could the regional economic boon from Meta be the saving grace for the university?
What we don’t know is what the tenor of the conversations behind closed doors with NCAA were. I was under the impression there wasn’t much choice.

Does that budget include NIL paid to players? I know it doesn’t but that is also worth comparing. What is the expense of each of the MBB rosters in the SEC. I know Arkansas is about $7mil. We are about $1.5mil. What’s everyone else?

Is Efferson still the coach at STA?

Surprised the coaching carousel in BR Region has not started moving just yet. (or announcements made) With the current openings and the domino effect of those being filled and other jobs coming open, should be interesting an interesting summer.
I am trying to follow - the lefty from creek is side arm and has a few small offers? Freshman?
thanks for the repsonse. With a young/new pitching staff, I think this is something to pay attention to. Agree that all will see plenty of time and all add value differently. Thaks for this thread and your breakdowns.
Adam - I have a catching question that I am not sure how to ask for purposes of this discussion but I will try. I recall during some of the CWS broadcasts it was mentioned about how well Milazzo did at stealing strikes for pitchers. Specifically think i remember it with Floyd. How much weight does the ability for the catcher to add value to the pitching staff matter vs offensive production? Is that quantifiable? Not talking about blocking balls in the dirt to prevent passed balls or wild pitches. I am talking borderline strikes one catcher can get vs another. With the great group of catchers we have, this is one element i don't think gets discussed much. seems the lean is mostly to the bat.
I assume the higher seed is the home team. Does anyone know which sideline of the superdome will be home and visitor?
and all the commotion about Glenn only directs more people to go see what he wrote and increase his "clicks" or "views". Enriching him in the process. He gets paid to create controversy and write opinions about it.
