This is the correct answer. The other team could use technology to steal signs but you couldn't use technology to protect yourself against sign stealing.

This is very, very different than a pitcher tipping his pitches like Max Fried was in Game 2 of the World Series, for example.

Just like Tyler Glasnow in Game 5 of the '19 ALDS or Yu Darvish in LA in Game 7 of the '17 World Series, both against the Astros who I'm sure have tipped pitches as well.

Not that fans should use tipping as an excuse for losing games.

Somehow I don't think the letter will be a big deal, but we'll see. If it is and even more info comes out over the following years about the electronic sign stealing era, biased fans who couldn't stop crying about the Astros will likely start changing their tune.

It's the hypocritical BS about how all of the electronic sign stealing going on for years before the league stepped in was okay by the more tech-savy and richer teams, and then all of a sudden once MLB stepped in it was going to ruin baseball. Meaning It was perfectly fine before the memo in the eyes of those that benefitted, but the Astros (and Red Sox) continuing was so much worse after the same shite had been going on.

I’m prepared to be very underwhelmed. No matter what it says, the sports media will downplay it cause muh Yanks. Even if it is bad, the excuse will be it was before the “crackdown” and Manfred will play along.

It must be pretty damning if they’ve gone though all this trouble to keep it sealed. Hopefully it isn’t underwhelming after all this hype.

You can bet they started this shite and pawned it off on the Astros, even had the Red Sox take a punishment for them

It's not illegal, but I don't know that I would go so far as to say it's perfectly acceptable

It is not only acceptable but expected. There is one exception that will get you dotted and that is a batter looking back at the catcher's signal.

I don’t get the sign stealing hullabaloo. It’s like protecting your hand in cards, if you hold it out there for everyone to see shame on you.

If you don't want your signs stolen, don't make it easy to be stolen.

Confirmation that Yankees had a similar set up as astros, except a baserunner would relay the pitch to the batter instead of a trash can. Caught in 2015-2016. Fined in the year of hindsight outrage 2017.

According to Jeff Passan, a nothingburger.

That's what I'm hearing 2nd Hand. Anyone confirm?

Eta: the distinction was the CF camera, which is apparently the line between egregious cheater, and a whole Lotta nothing. Again, according to the reliable Jeff passan.
