Really makes what Judge is doing seem more impressive. Since he is hitting .358 while playing in every game. Also impressive, the AL has 6 players above .300 with 3 above at least.320.

Goodness, this is just flat out wrong. Average comes at a cost to power, and power has 100% proven to be a more efficient way of scoring.

You’d think that we’d be setting records for rpg, but alas, we aren’t close.

The game is just more boring. Fewer runners, same amount of runs.

This is assuming you have 9 gorillas in the lineup. Some guys have no business swinging for the fences and would be better served trying to get on base to maximize opportunities for the guys who can mash.

The problem with analytics is its inability to understand simple nuance.

Analytics= Mike Trout. Whole bunch of pizzazz with very little substance. Hollow numbers that won exactly nothing.

Trout is a .296 career hitter

Wonder how the pitch clock is influencing this?

In the last 7 years 2019 had the highest runs per game average and also had the highest batting average for the MLB.

The balls were incredibly juiced that year.

Moneyball told me it was all about getting on base.

Since they played 96 games he needs 297.6 players appearances to qualify. Right now he has 296.

Came to post this. Two more plate appearances and he would be qualified. If he comes up 5 times in his next game (He'll need to have 300.7 or more PAs then) he will be qualified (3.1 PAs per game the team has played). If he plays two more games (303.8 to qualify), he'll almost certainly qualify.

Second basemen used to be Juan Pierre and Orlando Hudson . Now they’re fricking huge and can rake. The look of the players is different to accommodate the style of play

Would Tony Gwynn even make a team today? He averaged less than 7 HR per season for his career.

Tony Gwynn would be making coffee for the 4 ex BCG associates in the Padres analytics department in today’s MLB.

We need more Scott Podsedniks and less of this gorilla ball crap!!1

It’s because MLB made the teams stop banging on trash cans

Not sure if you are being sarcastic, but the same efficiency bias that has permeated the NBA with everyone thinking they are Curry has made me less interested in MLB over the years.

Typical analytics. As with anything, those current always believe they know better than their predecessors. The game hasn't improved due to analytics and has become less entertaining. Maybe the old guys from the past knew exactly what they were doing. New does not equal better. BA was an important stat for 150+ years yet now it means nothing.

If only Mike Trout had slimmed down and slapped the ball around more, he could have been the elite second baseman the Angels needed like Juan Pierre was

We are about two pages away from someone arguing that Babe Ruth hit a baseball 580 feet

All else being equal, I understand slugging is preferred. But there’s a lot of bad teams in the MLB, I’m not convinced someone couldn’t go back to concentrating on walks and getting on base to field a playoff caliber team with small ball guys.
