To your point... Caldwell hadn't played a down all season after suffering an injury during the preseason

Word around Natchitoches is there is more to this than just a coach who can’t coach the team due to his grief. Time to clean the whole program. Players included.
Glancing @ the football roster, I counted 60+ players not from Louisiana. I’m sure their families aren’t too happy about the entire season being wasted. Guessing 50%+ will transfer out the program?
Good luck attracting any quality coach to willingly subject themselves to such a crappy situation, especially for the shoe string budget they have to pay someone [*Laird was paid around $150k I believe the lowest in the Southland conference]
Nichols, McNeese, SLU are all paying double that, while Southern & Grambling are paying their coaches $400k+

Could be way off and late, but I saw a couple people on Twitter say that he did not want to cancel the season, and got into it with administration

Northwestern State should cancel football in perpetuity.

The same new woke administration that just canceled a fricking statue honoring Caddo Indians?
No way?!?!

This has a feel of Baylor mens basketball to it.

All of their games are now forfeits, right?
They should be kicked out of their conference and possibly sued by the conference.
If I was an AD in that conference I’d refuse to play them in the future.
I still hate UAB for this reason.
If the CUSA commissioner was worth her salary they would have been kicked out following the 2014-2015 academic year.
Southern miss sued the conference to be able to join the Sunbelt yet still got to host the baseball tournament.
If I'm the SLC commissioner I'd fine NWST to the point that they couldn't afford the fines and have to play the games.
Think about the seniors.

Caldwell family statement & lawsuit announcement
Family statement preceding the giant lawsuit they’re about to drop on NSU:
quote:
We would like to share some background on the events that led up to the final days of Ronnie’s life and what we believe to be the cause of the resignation of Northwestern State University (Natchitoches, Louisiana) Head Football Coach Brad Laird. “Due to mold in his unit at The Quad Apartment Complex, Ronnie was moved away from his original football teammate and roommate, was relocated to a new apartment within the same complex. The Quad Apartments are owned and managed by Campus Advantage, headquartered in Austin, Texas. Ronnie was somehow placed with a new roommate, who was a non-university non-college student. He also had previous run ins with law enforcement. Guns and drugs were subsequently discovered in the new roommate’s possession upon his arrest.
“After a series of verbal altercations, Ronnie’s new roommate pulled a gun on him on October 9th. Ronnie immediately reported this to his parents. Ronnie’s father immediately sent a text to Northwestern State Head Football Coach Brad Laird alerting him that he needed help and that Ronnie’s roommate had pulled a gun on him. Coach Laird replied with a phone call assuring the family that he would take immediate action and move Ronnie to a safe location. Nothing was done, the family heard no updates from the University. The next call the family received was from Coach Brad Laird telling us that Ronnie had been murdered. Three days after his cry for help, Ronnie was shot and killed at his apartment. According to local reports, his roommate was arrested on gun and drug possession charges. There is much more to this story than what has been widely reported. There were warnings. This was a senseless tragedy that could have been prevented.

It's about to get good. Lots of covering up going on also. They should not have used the death of a player as the reason they cancelled the season. Way more to this season being cancelled than just that.

This is to the point where I think it is gonna be a documentary on Netflix when all the dust settles. It is that bad. This new information about them not moving the player after it was requested is just adding even more to a wild situation.

Sounds like Baylor 2.0, except this time the coach didn’t tell everyone to lie about where the player got their money to pay for school.

If the player felt unsafe why even return to the apartment at all?
Sleep in your car on campus and alert the campus police so that they can be on the lookout for said person.

Kind of my thought as well. Whether the coach did anything or not, why was the first (and maybe only?) call to his parents and not his coach or campus police?
Not saying the parent's are lying, but I bet there's more to this story. Even with them--why call the coach? Call the damn police. Trying to pin this on the University with them only admitting to calling the head coach and no one else just seems off.

Surely he had friends on the football team he could have crashed on their couch. Not ideal, but better than living in an apparent drug den. I said last night when the coach resigned and they cancelled the season- There’s a lot more to this story. I just wasn’t sure if we’d hear about it or not.
