If the player felt unsafe why even return to the apartment at all?

It sounds like he was shot outside.

A Northwestern State University football player was shot and killed early Thursday near an apartment complex not far from campus in Natchitoches, police said.

Whatever happened might have started in their apartment, but from the limited details made public so far, we also don’t know what actions Caldwell took to avoid his roommate, or if his roommate knew Caldwell ratted him out and was looking for him.

OT thread is claiming other players were present when the shooting occurred and stonewalled the police on the suspect.

Another claim made is that a number of players were part of a drug ring operating on campus.

Surely he had friends on the football team he could have crashed on their couch. Not ideal, but better than living in an apparent drug den. I said last night when the coach resigned and they cancelled the season- There’s a lot more to this story. I just wasn’t sure if we’d hear about it or not.

Saying the player is blameless is wrong. He had options, just failed to use them.

Return with the police to collect your things.

If he was in that much fear, then going to the campus police should've been the first thing. He could've asked for any available housing on campus.

Also understand that scared people don't usually make wise choices.

For context, the apt complex is directly across the street from campus, next door to the “nice” Super 1 in town.

If my son called me and told me someone pulled a gun on him in assigned living situation, I’m not relying on someone else to get him out of it, IMMEDIATELY. And then filing the lawsuit.

Trying to pin this on the University with them only admitting to calling the head coach and no one else just seems off.

I mean, NSU putting any student, let alone a football player, with just some random Louisiana resident is pretty wild.

The apartment complex is off campus and not managed by the university. Did NSU put him there or the management at the complex put him there?

It was the school, no? Because the dorm he was staying in had mold.

The apartment with mold was within the same off campus complex.

LINK

Due to mold in his unit at The Quad Apartment Complex, Ronnie was moved away from his original football teammate and roommate, was relocated to a new apartment within the same complex. The Quad Apartments are owned and managed by Campus Advantage, headquartered in Austin, Texas. Ronnie was somehow placed with a new roommate, who was a non-university non-college student. He also had previous run ins with law enforcement. Guns and drugs were subsequently discovered in the new roommate’s possession upon his arrest.

I'm not understanding this. An apartment complex can't just assign a tenant to live with " Tyrone in 5c until your unit is fixed".... or Vice Versa. Maybe Caldwell was an acquaintance of this guy & thought he'd crash out in his apartment until his unit was fixed & something happened between them? Realized it was a mistake.

An Apartment complex cant just assign one a roommate. Sad story & more information needed.

This is one of those college apt places where it’s 4 separate bedrooms per unit w/ a shared kitchen and living room. Each person just rents a room, directly from the complex, not like a typical lease situation

It’s mostly student housing but not managed by the school. Not sure why non students live there. Probably because there aren’t enough students living in Natchitoches to sustain it otherwise. On the website for the complex it mentions they have a “roommate matching program.”

Okay. I need to get the traditional apartment lease out of my mind . " Roommate" seemed odd to me.

They did it to us in Baton Rouge back in 05 and the dude Ended up being a full on con artist with shitloads of warrants in Texas. Cops randomly show up to my apt complex and arrested the guy. This was at university crescent on Burbank.

NSU's starting QB weighs in... and makes things even more... interesting (ETA: Dr. Jones is NSU President Marcus Jones and Kevin is NSU Director of Athletics Kevin Bostian)

After biting my tongue, it’s time to speak out about this whole thing. My 2 cents:
