Just playing devils advocate, how can this possibly have any impact at all on concussions? It does nothing to prevent the brain from hitting the inside wall of the skull.

I'm just going to go out on a limb and say that more padding softens the blow,

Perfect. Now owners can say, “You should have worn more protection.” They’re getting tired of the concussion lawsuits from former players.

While the concussion lawsuits are ridiculous, its more like the owners would rather a diminished product than put even 1/1000 of a percent of profit at risk to a lawsuit, or to the cost of more extensive long term player care.

And what's wild is the NFLPA association has fought them at just about every attempt to increase personal foul penalties and rule changes in the name of player safety.

A Bills WR had one back in the day and I remember him taking a big hit and the padding came off and everyone thought his head came off

Just go back to leather I guess. .American football is apparently hell bent on returning to its Rugby roots with Rugby's restrictions on tackling and ejections for head contact.

Can’t wait for a defensive player to pull that over the eyes of the ball carrier

How does this helmet stop that in any way?

You will certainly get an objective scientific analysis on a board like this.

No way in HELL an NFL player wears that unless it is mandated. Yeah yeah, players are soft these days, whatever. It is still an alpha sport with alpha run locker rooms. He would be laughed out of the league.

Willie Roaf wore a Marvin the Martian helmet about 30 or 35 years ago. There might have been some players who made fun of him, but he's in the NFL HOF.

It was goofy looking, but if more players wore them we might have fewer Mike Websters and Junior Seaus.
