His senior year he threw for 2,500 yards and 25TDs / 8 ints. For 2003/04 that’s okay but not great. He started out his college career at a juco as well and only played two years at Cal.

I thought Tedford's short passing offense kind of kept him under wraps. He was outstanding in the 2004 USC game that Cal should have won. I do agree that his 3 years on the bench in Green Bay did him a world of good as far as fixing his mechanics.

He was a consensus all American and the #1 draft pick

Yeah we know that. But with the OP's ridiculous question there isn't many answers.

The only angle to this question is a great player in College that is looked at as even greater...or rather like a demi-god.

The fact that Manning didn't win the Heisman and people are now incredulous about it because of his Pro Career almost fits the bill for this question.

But Woodson was the right choice at the time as I mentioned. Manning was obviously a Heisman finalist and All-American but there were a lot of naysayers to the point people were actually thinking of drafting Leaf over him and said Leaf was more talented.

Couldn't beat Florida, couldn't win a Natty, couldn't dominate the SEC. Leaf lost to split National Champ Michigan in the Rose Bowl - and Heisman winner Woodson by a touchdown.

Manning got blown out by split National Champ Nebraska. People forget that Manning's tag was he couldn't win the big games which dogged him for awhile in the Pros.

Lawrence Taylor

Dude did basically nothing at UNC until his breakout senior season and now publications rank him among the top 100 college players ever

Joe Namath

Wasnt remarkable at Alabama production-wise yet is generally perceived as the iconic Alabama quarterback and college legend, definitely because of his pro career

Roger Staubach

Unremarkable stats at Navy, threw the same amount of INTs as TDs the year he won the Heisman, I don’t deny the man’s greatness at both sports and life but that Heisman was hype-driven, Navy literally campaigned for Roger to win that award the moment that season started, no secret

Either you didn't watch him play, or have a horrible memory of his college days.

He was a game changer. He may be more responsible for the change in offensive philosophy we've witnessed over the past 20 years than any other player or coach of the same time period. Every coach in America immediately went out and tried to find the next Michael Vick. Look at all the dual threat QBs in college football today. Vick was pretty much it back then.

RG3 as a runner. He was never as great as a runner at Baylor as he was as a NFL rookie

That’s bullshite...... back in the 60’s NAVY played ALL the big boys.... in today’s game how would you rank a NAVY QB finishing #2 in the country......

For a fullback in college he had a pretty good career at Penn State. He rushed for close to 2000 yards while there, the downside was that Penn State had Lydell Mitchell in the backfield too. Since most on this board probably were not alive in the mid 70's Lydell Mitchell was electric with the Colts. But in college he was almost other worldly for the era.

Franco though was the man for the Steelers. If you needed a clutch play, Franco was the man....also just a great human being.

He would put up MVP numbers in the league now with the much more innovative offensive coaching.

If prime Vick were in the league today, he'd make Lamar Jackson look like Gus Frerotte.

This right here, before Vick opened the door players with his skill set mostly just ended up being used in run heavy offenses. Suddenly a QB with the legs to run an option offense had a cannon for a arm.

Jim Brown. ESPN had him as #1 CFB player of all time.

He’s not even the best Syracuse HB of all time.

Pretty good answer.

But...

He and Jarvis and Mett set the all-time SEC offensive record in 2013.

He had a damn good college career with a mediocre offenseive scheme.

And here comes the nostalgia/driven hyperbole. Vick could throw a mile but he couldn’t hit a guy on a quick slant with precision. Dude was a great athlete, but a below average passer. He was the same guy in college and in the NFL.

Randall Gay started in 2 Super Bowls and got 2 rings.

He was a nickel back at LSU.
