What players do people look back on and say, “That guy was so good at (insert college here)” but they weren’t actually that good in college.

Mine: Michael Vick at Virginia Tech

Mike Vick was incredible in college. He almost won a natty as the offense at VT. He was better in college than the NFL

Michael Vick finished third in the Heisman as a freshman QB with the third highest ever efficiency rating and a tray of records

Pretty hard to overrate that

Did you ever actually watch Mike Vick in college? He was absolutely electric and a threat to score every time he touched the football.

I doubt the overwhelming majority of fans could even tell you where he went to college

2 years at VT:

- 56.0% completion percentage
- 149.9 passing YPG
- 1.7 Total TDs per game
- 59.0 Rushing YPG
- 5.5 AVG
- 0.91 Turnovers per game
- 150.6 Passer Rating

Nothing incredible about these numbers. He looked incredible flying all over the field, but he really wasn’t as good in college as people make him out to be.

Boston College was #2 in November. When’s the last time that happened?

He was dragging a pretty unremarkable team

And still had one of the top 5 seasons of a college QB of all time.

I think people assume he was a lot more dominate in college than he was.

If he put up earth shattering numbers in college, he wouldn’t be eligible for this thread

I actually think he’s kind of the opposite in that people down play his college play and his draft status in order to hype up his pro career a little bit. I believe kiper and whoever else did draft evals that year had him as a 3-4th round pick and he ended up sliding to the later rounds. And seemingly every old clip you can find of them talking of Brady’s college career, there never seem to be too many Drew Hensen concerns and most just felt like he was a limited ceilings type player due to his physical attributes

So basically I don’t think the average fan thinks “Brady was a monster at Michigan”, instead I think the usual thought would be “It’s crazy that Brady’s turned into this. He was just the guy who couldn’t beat out drew hensen in college” because of that underdog narrative that was built
